Horror or action?

Yeah, the intense fighting was good followed by a respite and feeling of safety and belonging/community in the stations. I believe Hollywood movies follow this "up and down" formula.

The diffrence from the Hollywood movies and Metro 2033 is that you never wanted to leave the stations. The tunnels was more or less = with death, so leaving a station was close to suicide.
imo most Hollywood movies doesnt make me get the same feeling.

I wouldn't say leaving the stations = death; not when considering that there are plenty of traders who do just fine. It's just pretty dangerous to go anywhere without being in an armed group. The surface however, I would say for the vast majority of people that is as close to certain death as you can get. If the toxic air and radiation doesn't kill you, the demons and watchers probably will.

That is.. unless you're talking about the book, which I've just bought but haven't had a chance to read yet.

Well I didnt mean that they ARE = death, but the feeling is pretty much that your probably gonna die. Know what I mean?

Yeah I know what you mean, just imo the tunnels don't really give me that impression. That's why I mentioned the surface; for me, that place gives me a constant vibe of 'I'm gonna die', because you can't even afford to get hit. Any damage to your gas mask and you're in big trouble :)

Resident Evil 6 is more of an action shooter now as Capcom said they want to compete with COD or something.

I think Metro 2033 should stay as a survival horror and gain AAA status like with the likes of Bioshock first.

That's the thing, it's not really a survival horror.

Metro 2033 has aspects of survival horror, but most of the game is more MGS/Splinter cell-type stealth. Imo it's only once you get to the library that you start moving really in the direction of survival horror, you don't really see any particularly creepy or dangerous mutants before that point.

Bioshock by comparison is almost entirely survival horror, with the entire point being that you navigate areas and face off against mutated mofos - tbh I can't see why Bioshock is more popular, imo it's just bad.

I prefer horror. If they make it a linear action it won't be so exciting as the last one and will look like the dumm CoD games |(... We shall see

Metro isn't really survival horror, since that genre has very little ammo, and a greater focus on horror than combat. But it does have elements of it, since ammo is rather scarce. ...yeah. :)

Both action and horror will work better, IMO.

I think it should move more towards horror there aren't many good horror games out there and metro could fill that gap. i think metro 2033 had a good balance just a few more missions like dead city 1 please :)

This is my first post to this forum, so I'll guess I'll start by saying:

    Hai guys 'n' gals!

I recently nothing short of stole Metro 2033 on Steam for something like 2 euros. I've had the game on my radar for quite some time but it really seems I thoroughly underestimated the game!

I've been enjoying it thus far, very much so. In fact, I don't recall being this immersed in a game world since the days of Thief - The Dark Project (also, The Metal Age). There are surprisingly lot of similar aspects between the two: scarcity of equipment, horror, adventure/exploration, a world that seems very lifelike and rich, and of course, the ability to get around stealthily.

That leads me to the topic at hand: My bias is definately towards the horror element. I'd also love to see a better take on the stealth gameplay, which I know after watching some interviews, has been taken into notice.

But don't shy away from action, either! I think Metro is the kind of game (world) where firefight can't and shouldn't always be avoided. I want to emphasis though, that I'd really appreciate if there was oft a stealthy way to many of the situations.

One thing I really liked in Metro is that it really encourages to avoid combat in natural ways: the combat is effin' hard, to me at least! I'd like to see that idea carried to the next level, where stealth is still very hard, but rewarding - meaning that the AI responds in a way that is intuitive.

I think that mutants for one, could see the player much better in the dark areas than the human opponents (unless wearing nightvision!), thus adding more diversity and depth to the gameplay choices.

I know my post is running from issue to another, but bear with me. ;) I'd also like to see a few non-linear levels with an emphasis to exploration. Linearity in general suits Metro and is quite self-explanatory.

Having said all that, I'd like to say that I'm very much enjoying what I've seen and heard from Metro: Last Light thus far. Keep it up!

TL;DR I'd like more emphasis on horror, stealth, and exploration without forgetting the action.

Metro 2033 is just a very atmosperic action game basically. I wouldn't really class it as a horror, it's more "wow I made you jump" rather than a game that keeps you on edge and scared to walk in the dark :p
