How did you find out about Minecraft? And what made you stay?

I found out about Minecraft from a forum I used back in 2010. Took me a year to buy it but I eventually did.

I found out about it from my friends. They were avid players from the beginning of Minecraft. They all told me about this crazy new game where you could do anything you want and it was like Legos. LOL I stayed because I love the idea of sandbox games. I've tried a few and I always come back to Minecraft. I like how they mod and have texture packs. The various online servers are pretty nice as well.

My friends on IRC played a lot on private servers. I grabbed the game and started playing it with them about three years ago and haven't looked back since. The flood of Youtube videos didn't help either.

My friends. They played it a lot a while back and told me that I should try it out and play with them. We all got together one time to play and I thought it was pretty cool. I was a total idiot doing things, but it was still fun to build stuff with my friends.

My friends kept bugging me about getting it back in 2011 I think, it was in early alpha and the game just looked silly to me even though tI understood the concept of trying to look old school with the faux pixelated graphics and all that, but I didn't think I would like it, then I watched some SeaNanners videos of him doing a playthrough and I got really hooked once my friends explained to me what you can do, and I saw more videos and understood the game better, it just captivated me.

I think I heard about Minecraft when I was lurking around the GameFAQs forums back in the day, it was pretty early in development, so much that I got it for about $3 I think.
