How much customization do you want?

As far as what I've seen, I think customization in this kind of game is a bit of a 'useless' feature since, at least how I see it, it's more about the shooting and overall experience rather than flashy showing off like most RPG's. Although I wouldn't say no to a sweet SWAT-Rugged Civilian set of armor/costume.

Honestly I feel that graphics customization is definitely needed, not everyone can afford the most modern hardware and it's not fair to disclude them from playing a possibly great title. However with that being said character customization is also a must for any modern MMORPG, you need to be able to set yourself apart from other people. Adding to this hopefully there's enough diversity within play styles that everyone doesn't literally end up using the exact same thing.

Everyone has to look unique somehow. I hope the customization is in depth enough. I won't hide that it's one of the things that I'm excited the most about the game, so I want this to be good. :D

I'm a huge fan of customization but I think they won't rely that much on that in this game. Since the game is pretty 'serious' at least that's how I see it, I don't think giving the players wacky customization options would be great but since this is an RPG type of thing, it's probably going to be available.

But so far I've never seen any footage about customizing your character fully so I'm pretty sure it's not going to be a huge thing in this game.

I would love customisation akin to Elder Scrolls Online or Destiny and pray that I can just hit a randomise option and then go back and alter my characters appearance later. I don't think it will happen mind.

I'd love to have a decent amount of freedom to customize my character but for the most part I think a minimum would do since the nature of the game isn't really to be a flash fest unlike most MMO's. I don't think they would allow massive customization options though, I mean the game itself seems huge so it might be a lot of work to actually incorporate those at this point.

What other games Ubisoft has done recently with character customization, by the way? It would be an indicator of how they'll make it into this game.

Don't want it to be too much in order to keep the story but it would be nice to have a bit of it tbh.

Good point, pretty much none. AC and Watch_Dogs only had costume changes, but you couldn't modify your protagonist. This would have been a neat feature when you're playing the Abstergo employee in the AC series, but instead they went first-person and I don't believe your sex is mentioned during the current day events.

I doubt that. I mean, look at Fallout 4. I haven't played it personally, but I've watched many Youtube videos, and there's a very large amount of customization. Personally, I love to make my character look exactly how I had imagined it would be, so this is important to me. If it really boils down to either getting a good story and game vs customization, in my opinion, they haven't spent enough time on the game. A lot of games in the last few years have spiked in the customization pool, so it would be weird if they didn't have at least a fair amount of options.

I think the system that's in new Fallout is a little over the top (yes, I know Borderlands had a similar system) and to be quite honest it's knocking me out of the game experience a little bit. However, in The Division, your character is a part of an elite fighting unit so it would be obvious that he (or she) would have a good knowledge of how guns work and would be able to modify them in a post-apocalyptic environment.

Hmmmm. I'm not sure the intent is really to overdo it, but rather open up the ability for the player to make their character exactly how they would imagine. At least eventually. In my own experience, games tend to be like another reality I live in. I imagine how something is, then get excited when I'm living it the way I envision it.

@d'arakh and @Maelalove : is the customizing system in Fallout 4 really above anything that's been released previously, or is it on par with the usual Bethesda character creation that we've seen in previous Fallouts and the Elder Scrolls? I remember spending a ton of time in Skyrim perfecting my character (and then going to the face changer and changing it again many times, lol).

and @Cyborg Superman for some reason I completely blanked out and thought the topic was about weapon customization and adding mods to it, sorry for that. And yeah, I still feel like the weapon customization is a little over-the-top in Fallout 4. As far as character customization goes, we already have a preset story (at least that's how it looks to me) so in the end it won't matter how much customization you can get (in my opinion). There's an industry wide standard in customization of character's appearance and I'm sure we'll see the same in The Division, but what I would really like is at least some sort of background customization. Obviously, our character is a solider of sorts, but how he got there is also interesting. Could also make for some interesting choices down the line.

@d'arakh ahhh okay I understand better now, lol. I'm not sure if the game is going to be going that deep, or if it's going to be your standard vanilla background story.

In recent years people are starting to care more and more about context so I bet your character is going to have some kind of story for sure.

Oh I see. I get where you're coming from. Personally then, I'd have to agree with the weapon customization being a bit too much. Personally I feel like in a setting like this(and Fallout 4, actually) it would be a bit unrealistic to have some sort of super upgraded or modded weapon. If it did, it would need to be rare. But maybe they can put a spin to it, not really sure.
