If you had the option to live through a MMORPG

Eeeh, probably not. If I could roam my house and go out from time to time, maybe. But I wouldn't not go out ever again just for an MMO.

What?! That doesn't sound even remotely fun! First of all it isn't very healthy and you would get sick very fast. Secondly, I love sports and like this I wouldn't get to do my sports. As a human being you also need real human contact. So all in all this is really not a good plan.

I'm laughing at the grinding commentary. Gawd if we were to live our lives just as how the mechanics of the game is set up- I'd go crazy. Making money in game would be a pain in the ass. Forever looting, salvaging and constantly dying and reviving...Now that I think about it- getting eaten all the time doesn't sound fun, but neither does grinding for gathering nodes or crafting. How would the pain tolerance be?

While for a minute it sounded tempting, I'd have to say no. I generally don't like to interact with people but the few that I do interact with wouldn't be worth losing, even if it meant I could avoid everything else for the rest of my life.

This is a tough question. It's like giving the option of Virtual Reality, but never being able to actually leave your room. Personally, I wouldn't be able to do it. I would love to be able to live in an MMO, but if I didn't have the option to leave back into the real world, I'd go insane. I think I'd miss being able to touch someone, too. Physically touch, for me, is just something that can't be replaced.

Honestly, I would not want to give up real life to live in a game, but I'll admit, I would absolutely love to have the abilities my characters do. I have thought time and time again how nice it would be to arcane blast someone who is taking forever in the checkout line lol. I wouldn't mind having blink either so I could get around town quicker. I couldn't live in an online world personally, but I am sure it would work for some people.

You took the words right out of my mouth. There are just some parts of real life that I don't think I could live without, no matter how tempting it would be to live free in an online world. I would miss the human interaction most of all. I would feel like I would miss out on what life has to offer, and I kind of feel like the in game world would become boring after a while.

Its kind of like what Ricky proposes to Karl on The Ricky Gervais show that. If they made a flotation tank. In which the person floating in it would essentially dream the perfect life no heartache no loss everyday is a great day and in they have no recollection of being in that tank. What the person dreaming in the tank is thinking of is essentially his life and its the perfect life. And that dream fades away when that persons body biologically fades away in the tank at the age of around 76

The question is kind of like that except essentially Im not in the MMO, Im just some guy watching a screen playing an MMO. I wouldn't because I love cycling and enjoy being in the outdoors, and secondly Im partial to a cigarette and wouldn't want to stink up the room

So in other words no, but if it was like the flotation tank and Im in the actual MMO world then maybe I would leave reality behind but only if I have no idea of what reality actually is and that I believe that the MMO world is reality.

Its what do you choose. Live a lie albeit a perfect one, or Live life how you are meant to joy, heartache and everything in between

Making money is a pain in the pass in real life too, lol. :)

Yeah, there are certain aspects of it that I wouldn't hate, mostly since I can be lazy sometimes. Ultimately I'd end up going stir-crazy being cooped up like that all the time. I need air sometimes, to see the outside world! lol

Same here. I would love to have powers, or to be able to experience first hand some of the epic stories you get into in the game world, but I wouldn't want to sacrifice my whole life for a completely different one, that I may even grow tired of.

This sounds horrible to me. I mean, I get it, life sucks, but what's new? I definitely enjoy pouring hours upon hours into a game every once in a while, but I could never do something like this.

This whole thing sounds like a pitch for the next Saw movie...

Honestly, you couldn't have said it better :) Great way to escape real life for a few hours but definitely not permanently or physically.

Fun idea! Sounds bittersweet. To maximize the bittersweet-ness I'd go with Ragnarok Online. Permanent nostalgia, forever.

Real life as an adult is hard and it's a constant struggle to pay the rent and bills. Still, there are a lot of things about the world that are beautiful so I wouldn't want to completely disconnect from the world and live in one room playing an MMORPG forever. I would do it for a one week vacation but not more than that.

Oh goodness... probably any of the Star Wars ones. Though EverQuest was super entertaining. Star Wars though man! Then I get to stay in the galaxy far, far away forever! :D

Interesting question. Well, I wouldn't shut myself in a room forever. The whole point of playing is that its not real life. If I had to just never ever go out? Then it would feel like work and the game would lose its charm. So, I would definitely not do it.

That would be an amazing premise for the next Saw movie, I'd be on board with that, lol. Going over the responses in this thread, it really seems like the common theme here is that video games are for escaping reality, not being trapped by it, lol.

Sounds like a good idea... for full body disabled people who can't even move on their own, let alone have sex and have kids. It would be a good escape from the reality for these people who otherwise can't have a life.

    For us normal people, NOPE!
I like video games, but it is only for entertainment. No way I want to stay in the same room for the rest of my life unless somehow I hit my head and develop mental illness.

You do realize all current MMORPGs do not have a "dream" world. Most of them have terribly unstable environment where most part of the "world" is overrun by monsters who will attack you on sight. Why would you pick a dark age reality to go to instead of this real world?
Until there is a perfectly fine "dream" world where you can choose not to get involved in any violence / possible death etc, situations, I do not think a lot of people will even want to pick your option at all.
