Is "free" a good or a bad thing?

I don't think "free" is necessarily a bad thing. I have played plenty of free games that aren't terrible quality and gave me a lot of good gaming time. I enjoy numerous free-to-play games.

Well I don't know that any MMORPG is actually free, it might be free to download and join, but in order to reach anywhere you'll probably have to shell out some dough on equipment and gear and the like...

With some games, this is very very true and when it is true- I run to the hills. I cannot stand pay to win gaming.

No such thing as free, from my experience of online gaming, anything free means "pay to win" you do get to play the game but at a disadvantage that others simply pay to get better "rare" weapons while you are stuck there farming your heart out to get what you want. But IMO if you love the game then a few bucks won't hurt since it is for the benefit of your gaming experience anyway.

Free is a good thing, but you're more likely to get random idiot noobs which are much more unlikely to troll if they're paying for the game. That's my analogy anyway!

Free trials are good, because you can decide whether the game is worthwhile keeping up with or not.

Trials are great! IMO every game should have one, because a costumer should know if he really is into the game or not without wasting time and money for buying a crappy game.

Free is good in pretty much any game that doesn't involve online interaction. Because most of the time "Free" means spending a huge amount of time grinding the gear of the game or paying to win to get ahead in the game. Free games are brilliant in app form that require very little game design or maintenance.
