Well the thing is, it's a kids game. A kids game that was first introduced when many of us were still kids. So it's a bit of nostalgia attached to it whenever we see it as adults. But at the end of the day, it's a kids game. Honestly I never played it for the thought of it being cute and I think it shouldn't matter how old you are if you want to play it again. My thoughts. But can you still consider it a kids game when it has so many complex systems? Yes at a base level it is easy to understand, but that just means it has a low barrier to entry. It can be presented as a kids game but still not be aimed at kids, like some cartoons are for adults, like Archer or Family Guy for example.
I still consider it a kids game the story seas enough to follow and progress, but when your talking about competitive battling that's a whole other story.
I don't think it's for kids, really. The strategy you can put into it, the thought and planning, elevates this to a truly all ages title. You can enjoy it as a kid, but you can really appreciate the design and battles as a kid or an adult.
No, the game is made for everyone, the pokemon's may seem childish but the game in itself is very tactical, and that's why everyone likes to play it, ages aside.
Exactly, I can't imagine kids discussing IV's, EV's and egg moves. It's a game for everyone, although kid's can't "reach" all complexities.
I'm a live example of it, know that I'm way older, I play Pokemon much, much better. I completely understand fights now. haha
I think it appeals to adults because many of us grew up with Pokemon. I guess the anime and the marketing industry does target kids, but many adults still enjoy Pokemon. I for one, still love the games. Many of my friends still do and many of them are in their 20's or earl 30's. If someone goes overboard, then maybe it can be a little disturbing. But there's nothing wrong with enjoying the games and watching the anime once in a while.
Well, I'm an adult and I still play pokemon, call me nerd, otaku, immature I don't care I love pokemon.
I feel as if there are games that are marketed fully to games, and with Pokemon I feel as if the creators know and realize that a lot of the fans are older than children so they have jokes for the older audiences but still make it suitable for kids.
Personally the way I see it if you understand and have fun with any game who cares if it's for kids having fun is all that matters!
I can't agree with you more RMCMage. Why should people judge other people if they're having a good time!
No, it is not just for kids. Thanks to Diamond and Pearl it became competitive. I am not hating that it is, but I am not good in that sorts.
I like to play it even without the online competitive aspect. Even if you just play single player, it's still a deep and complex game (although you can also take it lightly) The addition of different difficulty levels helped that a lot.
I think this question could rest with any video game, television show- anything really that is aimed towards children. I think everyone is entitled to enjoy whatever it is they find appealing. I don't think there is anything wrong with picking up a game that is aimed towards children and thoroughly enjoying it. I'd disagree that pokemon is just for kids, though. I would even make the bold statement that majority of the pokemon game players are adults that have loved pokemon since they were young.
I think it's intended as an introductory games for kids, but I don't see any reason why it can't be a game for everyone. If you can handle the awkward stares of a 20+ year old adult buying a Pokemon game, then why not buy it! I also agree with some of the posters that say most of us probably got started into RPG gaming with Pokemon.
Of course not. I started playing it as a small child and grew up with it, i'd definitely go back and play it again now if I had the time. I mean, it's obviously aimed at children, but people like me wouldn't just be able to suddenly dislike it when we've grown up. It's no different to adult fanbases of Runescape/Neopets/etc.. Actually... I might go and pick up Pokemon Sapphire now...
It's the same question as "is gaming something for kids", or something similar. The answer is just simply: no. Adults have hobbies too, some are only more accepted by the "adult community".
Technically they are made with kids in mind but they also gear in to the adult market since most people that loved Pokemon back then are now adults. But the theme of the game is strictly made for kids. It would be great if Pokemon has a M Rated counterpart.
