Yeah this^ you don't aim at enemies like in Skyrim, you just basically right click and infuse skills onto your bow/arrow or something.

Depends on the game and who I'm playing with, but generally I prefer melee. A tank is always useful. Plus, I just enjoy plowing into stuff. Nothing beats it in my book. :)

2007 me, then melee all the way. But I find ranged a lot more fun and accurate nowadays. Also, much of a bonus being able to attack from a distance isn't it? Surely that beats melee by a long way!

I always go for the melee option, since I started to play with them, I can't get used to a ranged character now, it just feels strange to me because I've never played one all these years!

I tend to go for more ranged but I have had my fair share of melee characters too. I think for me it depends what type of mood I am in and what type of game I am playing. Sometimes I like to stand back and just watch the fight rather than being tossed around (directly) in it.

And melee fighters will have a harder time judging their movements in battle compared to ranged fighters who just stand back and choose wisely who to aim at and a wrong move will kill you. Plus you have to be aware of all incoming projectiles at you as you have to tank them all.

I use ranged weapons most of the time, just because I like sneak attacking people. I do however use melee attacks quite often just because you can't really avoid melee when you are in a close quarters battle.

This is when blinking capabilities become useful for ranged players. I always face this problem whenever melee opponents come too close and having an escape mechanism or push back skill is always handy to balance the fight between me and a melee warrior.

In lineage 2, we just select a target and our arrows will always fly that direction with an almost always hit rate every time we click shoot. It's not like FPS games where the accuracy is entirely depended on the actual skill of the player. As the matter of fact, I haven't see any MMORPG which requires skills to land a hit as a ranged class.

Mages might be slow enough to let melee class to catch up... in some games. In lineage 2, nukers can kill a melee before he/she even get close. An archer is fast enough to keep the distance between him/herself and the melee.

In Neverwinter Nights, there were one shot spells from the mages.
I used these two games because they are the two most memorable for me. :)

Had a brief stint with Lineage 2 and I must say that the archers are pretty op :p

I have played both and prefer Ranged. However, melee has its charm. As a Protection Paladin in WoW, I was nearly invincible in PvP. I was pretty much like a mini-boss against 3-4 other enemy players. Plus, my massive armour, mitigating damage abilities and huge health pool made me like a god. It's fun to charge up to an enemy as a warrior and smash him/her to a pulp.

Range is more suitable for me though. I find it easier to switch between targets and also easier to support my team mates on the fly.

Also that melee usually has high DPS and defense which are the two things I like to have high at. I'm more towards the "tank" playstyle. Since I don't go for ranged classes much I also suck at using them.

Melee would be pretty awesome but I usually fail at taking up roles like these so I stick with my bow or wand most of the time when playing RPG games.

I tend to lean towards melee classes a lot more often. I like getting into the enemy's face and in the case of games with a dodge mechanic, it's fun to weave around the enemy. Not to mention how weapons for melee classes generally look a lot better than ranged.

Ranged by far. Many magic wielders are ranged so I use that to support my team and enjoy casting buffs to help out too.

Melee usually, ranged usually sucks until higher levels.

Archers in Lineage 2 were overpowered. They nerfed archers on all fronts. Including reduce our speed, increased everyone else's speed (took out our speed advantage), and nerfed our critical hit rate.

After C1 or C2 update I forgot, they made nukers overpowered. The nukers used to hit hard, but hit slow, which means their spells could be easily interrupted. After the buff, the nukers could spell faster than archers can shoot. Each of their spell does equal damage unlike our arrows which relay on the critical hits to do more damage. For example, an archer had HP of 6000, hit 300 per shot but 1k damage on critical. A nuker had HP of 4000 but be able to hit for 1k each. The nuker will always kill the archer quicker than the archer can kill the nuker unless the archer get lucky on critical hits as well as the stun shot.

It is not just about pvp. In PvE, all bosses require nukers take down since they all have high resistance to physical damage.

I am full on mage or archer when it comes to games. I have to shoot from a distance, because that is just my style of playing. I only do melee if I have to. I love being a mage or an archer, because the weapons are awesome and you do not have to be so up close and personal haha. I will have a melee character though, because I think that melee is fun too, but I am always playing a range character.

I mainly go for the ranged option, usually the magic type of ranged (like a mage etc.).
Sometimes I go for melee for the fun of it, but usually I go for the magic type.
I like mages because of the abilities and watching the effects, although they have low armour, they can heal and do LOTS of damage.

Good question, but I tend to prefer Ranged people simply because I feel more safe with it, although melee people tend to be more tanky and take less damage, if you go in, you're most likely to be targeted and piled on, which is bad. Whilst when ranged, you can get in a distance and still attack. That's what I think tough :/
