Depends on the game. I prefer melee all the way but the thing is ranged can be killer in some games. For instance in Lineage II ranged classes cause a lot of damage. Their defense sucks so you gotta keep your distance but it feels good to watch the bodies drop lol I still had the most fun with melee even in that game.

I just like being melee with friends, making sure nothing gets by me so I can protect those to my backrow. If I'm solo, I prefer the farthest range possible, as to allow as many hits/spells/arrows as is humanly(or other race-ly) as possible. This usually is a sorcerer or magician user who suffers from the glass cannon syndrome, but I find if you make them the right way (warp/blinking/ice blocks/invulnerability/tanky skills) on top of magic, you actually are more tanky then most leather or chain classes.

So I tend to stick magical. But in a group, tanking or healing is just so fun. I like to know my role is central and if I fail, so does my unit. That pressure makes me perform to a constant level of greatness.

I think ultimately in a lot of games I prefer melee as it's a lot more intense, and "in your face" so to speak. I like a mix of tanking it and at times, stealthy. Combining the two together makes for a great and most epic game-play experience that i'll never forget. However, in some games I do generally prefer to play as a ranged character as they can tend to offer a unique experience as well.

I'm definitely a melee type of person as I love tanky and buff characters and just going for the kill no nonsense. I make a great warrior, champion or paladin in this sense. Ranged are usually for high damage from afar and I don't usually go for the wizard or archer types as they have really low hp that's not good for hunting.

unless you spec those squishy classes into tanky traits (or invulnerability frames) yeah, they are the typical "Glass Cannon".

Been playing on my Warrior a bit in multiple games. I just like the feeling of knowing if I do my job, nobody dies. And if I do it well, we can advance at a steady pace. I'd rather not leave that in the hands of some 10 year old random. Let them be the DPS. LOL

I like ranged in the vast majority of games, especially classes like an archer or something similar that allows me to move around while attacking. I love the extra mobility that being able to do that provides me.

Ranged is definitely better for me. I like being able to dictate the opponents actions, and thus the fight by dictating the range at which the fight has to occur. In most MMOs. kiting an enemy out and forcing them to chase you makes PVP much easier, and it means they limit their options to respond to you because you're potentially drawing them into a trap.

In every MMORPG and generally game I played, melee seemed to fulfill my liking to a bigger extent than ranged. It just scaled way better and dealt more damage, whereas ranged were simply annoying but easy to catch if you played 1v1.

While back in my glory days on World of Warcraft, I used to play a paladin tank, because I wanted to go up-close and get personal with the mobs, nowadays I've started going to the ranged way of life, because I find it way more laid back and relaxing.

I prefer melee for action games with a lot of repetitive combat. There is less set-up before you start attacking and the game feels smoother. With slower combat systems where enemies have signficant AI, I prefer ranged classes because you have space to be tactical.

Personally I enjoy a bit of both.

My first class was a melee class, but I've played ranged classes as well and enjoyed both. Mostly it depends on what mood I am in, or what my party needs more.

Ranged combat I do only for a switch up once in a while. All-in-all, I just find it funner to rush into battle and hack through everyone. I'm definitely not the most tactical gamer in the world; I go for whatever I think is the funnest method of play. Even if I know I would have more success going for a ranged weapon, I'd still rather pick a sword (or magic if a mage option is available in that particular game) because you can get right into the combat without thinking and planning it out. Of course, there are people that find thinking out their game tactics one of the funnest parts of play, but I'm not one of those types. I'm hasty and impatient. I want to be in the center of the combat right away.

Come to think of it, that thinking I have in games is probably also why I skip over instructions and tutorials and end up flailing around later on in game because I don't know what to do, lol. I just wanna go ahead and do it myself!
