Holy mother of God, people. Locking threads isn't going to solve anything. To be frank, I think we're doing perfectly fine at present. It's just people going through perfectly human emotions. We get mad. We get angry. And then we calm down.

I agree, but I honestly thought that things were going to get much worse. I'm glad I was wrong. :)

So Mrs. Cerberus (a non-gamer) and I were having diner and I asked her:

    - "My dear, if I were to sell you my newest album," - because that's what I do, I'm an artist/musician - "and I would tell you that instead of it having ten songs, an eleventh song would be present on the disc and it's the best song of the whole album, but you can only listen to it if you give me €5 extra on top of the retail price you've already paid..."
    - "That's unfair!", she interrupted me while raising her voice. "You know who engaged in classism as well, Cerberus?!"
    - "Erm... The nazis?", blurting out the first thing that came to mind.
    - "Exactly. So fuck you in that regard and you can keep your album."

First, I would like to say that I can't even remember the last time Mrs. Cerberus raised her voice because she was so upset about something. Secondly, I then kindly explaining to her the kind of stunts THQ and many other video game publishers were pulling with the products they published and so on. She thought it was unethical and that these companies should be sued for fraud. But there you have it people. The key words are: Unfair. Classism. Nazis.

    That is all.

No, we never do. :) In fact, the long discussion that followed was more profound. But suppose that even if we did run out of intelligent arguments, it wouldn't make it any less true. It's the core idea behind the business strategy that matters, and the core idea is that it's malevolent and exploitative.

    What an icon for pirates,
I should not have mentioned anything about pirating from the beginning right?

Oh and "pirates" are just normal people ffs, don't mix internet with real life way too much, they dont steal cars, or rob shops or whatever... and some of them might aswell buy the game later, like bamul said.

It's not only this forum which is outraged about the removal of a difficulty setting. Just read the comments on PC Gamer, Euro Gamer, IGN, etc and the majority share our sentiments.

This is my favourite comment lol

When I read it I thought it was Bamul lol

Edit - This Guy nailed it for me.

If you can buy the game after its release for 5 euro more to get ranger hardcore, then the matter is a little bit better, but it's still completely wrong. According to my personal meaning, Cerberus has got it all correct.

I agree that saying it out loud here was a bad idea that really does degrade the forum, especially as I am a moderator. But then again, if THQ does see that this matter causes me to concider to pirate the game, then I think it's worth it to post it here, because this message is exactly what THQ needs to see.

As some has said earlier in the thread, this is a small matter. It's an even smaller matter for me, as I live in a country with a lot of money. I'm only sixteen, but I can still easily afford the game when it comes out, without having to save up money first.
If I pirated the game, it would not be because I'm evi l. It would not be beause I'm greedy. It would not be because I'm poor. It would be to prove a point, and to hopefully send a message.

By the way, I would like to point out something that may have been overlooked by many. I don't blame you, as this was THQ's intention all along.

You see, the suits at THQ are very much aware that this was going to cause controversy. They know that stripping a significant difficulty mode from their product is wrong. But in the business world, always remember this rule: there is no such thing as bad publicity. To those of you who realized this as well, it serves as a reminder that they've got the majority by the balls, that they can fuck with them any time they want and that they're proud to show it off to the rest of the world.

In a way, we are playing along with their filthy little game by having generated such a heated discussion. However, those of you that rightfully decided to boycott their plans by not buying the game, which grieves me to say is probably the vast minority: congratulations, you have beaten them, and I fully encourage others to follow suit.

And they wonder why they're going down the drain.. -_-
Hopefully they reconsider and just put it on the damn disc. It's not like it'll take much space at all.

I'll bet you all of my bullets that it is already on the disc. The LE just comes with a 128kb unlock key to unlock it.

I find this to be even worse than all the crap that BioWare/EA pulled with the From Ashes ULC.

This here really enlightened me completely. Of course they knew it all along. I had problems believing that such a popular and big company would make such a "hasty and wrong move", like I said myself. It wasn't hasty at all. They knew it all along. This really makes me realize that I'd send no message by pirating it. All I'd do would be to prove a point. And that would be for the disadvantages of my own personal good. (It would mean to possibly not get the Ranger Hardcore mode). All in all, THQ are the ones that decides how things roll, and we simply have to obey or "gtfo". I might just pre-order it, I don't know.

You definitely would be sending a message by pirating the game... It just wouldn't be the type of message they'd listen to. Pirating the game is saying: "I do not support your practices but I am still interested in your product, regardless of how corrupt your methods are."
Simply not buying the game is saying: "I do not support your practices and as long as you don't clean up your act, I am not interested in your product either." It is by far the hardest thing to do, I have been looking forward to Last Light just as much as any of you here, but it is very much the necessary thing to do. Sadly this type of message only works when it is sent by a larger group. So like I said: I fully encourage others to follow suit.

Then again, I may be thinking too highly of THQ as a company that would actually clean up their act when confronted with feedback from their disgruntled fans...

I honestly don't know what to do anymore. I've been waiting for this game so long - it is quite possibly my most anticipated game of all time, yet I really do feel that I shouldn't buy it now. Damn you, THQ. Why can't you just give 4A Games all the money they need, let them do their magic and bugger off! :p

This is the part where I will admit that social networking services such as Facebook etc. can be useful: all one has to do is create a group, write down a polite word or two explaining the reasons why us Last Light fans are so upset and have a petition go viral. If each signature represents a lost sale, I can almost guarantee it'll get their attention. I think we have an opportunity here to stand together and fight for a cause. How about it, gents? Who will get the ball rolling?

I have a facebook account, but I'm not sure how to start groups or anything like that - I kept the account just for socializing with my friends in Poland. So I won't be the one to create a group for us, but I would gladly follow one if such a group is made. :)
