Rounds cracked around my head as my would be comrades fired continually into the vast skulking horde. 'What the hell are they? What do they want?' I asked, not really expecting an answer and half hoping not to hear the truth either. I dared to look through a small crack in the brickwork, but I already knew they were there. Their stench clung to my nostrils like woodsmoke clings to a mans clothing. We needed to move...but where and how?

"They are howlers, and they want you. Just keep an eye out behind us!" I yelled, my voice muffled by the gasmask. There were at least forty of them out there, probably more. This was a large horde, even I knew that. I kept shooting.

5 rounds. What were 5 measly rounds against such numbers, such reckless hatred manifested in these abominations. I held the revolver ahead of myself facing the back of the building. How would I act when the time came, would I falter again? I had flinched when the beast felled my mentor, he was dead regardless but what if I had been braver...would I have saved him? I was distracted from my thoughts by a quiet scratching towards the back of the room, too loud to be a rat. "Are we staying or going? We need to escape! I'll be damned if il die at the hands of these demons". The words that left my mouth belied my inner fear, I hid among these stalkers like a boy amongst men.

My senses was getting better now. I don't care anymore why my senses went all numb on me, but it was almost beginning to get scary for a while there.
Now I could atleast shoot the Howlers between the eyes with my Hellsing, but there were too many of them.
Then my memories crept up my back again:

I was at school. It was one ordinary day, just like any other.
I was 16-18 years old, I cannot really recall exactly how old I was, but did just finish class.
We heard the bomb alarms go off. Suddenly this ordinary day got to be the worst one in my life.
I ran back in school with the rest of my class, to hide inside one of the bunkers we had. They were really new, made too withstand anything.
Good for me they did. But the days afterwards was the mosst horrible ones....

Now I knew what kind of building we were in!
It was a school. They had build bunkers in all the schools in case of a nuclear war would start. The best thing about them is that they lead about 2km out from the school to a another building.

I searched the floor for a hatch or anything similiar, and eventually found one.
"Hey! I found a way out!", I said.
"Im not sure we'r gonna get out safely on the other end, but what kind of plan do we have at the moment?"

Sorry for long post lol, but I kinda let my creativity flow xD

I stared into the dark tunnel, and then at the swelling horde of howlers outside. "Maybe it connects the Metro? Perhaps they connected this bomb shelter to the world's biggest."

Long posts are good, they develop the character!

The howls were growing louder, and there was no end to them. "Okay", I yelled over the gunshots and mutant screams, "So who's gonna go first?" I blew away a massive howler as it leapt at the stalkers in the doorway.

I, being the explorer type, said, " Well, here goes nothing." I climbed down the ladder and into the tunnel. It was dark, but I felt safer. I turned on my headlamp, and said, "all clear!"

I saw one of the strangers was only holding a revolver. I immediately grabbed it off him and gave him my kalash. I proceeded to pull out my revolver in addition to the strangers one and I dual wielded them. "Go go go!" I shouted. "I will cover your retreat''."Go now, while you have a chance. I will meet you at market station". I then fired blindly into the huge grey mass which was steadily charging towards us, they seemed unstoppable.

Obeying the words of the stalker who had grabbed my revolver I took the Kalash he had thrust to me and followed the others down. Either the dual wielding stalker was mad or he knew what he was doing. Each shot he fired seemed to halt a howler in its tracks. Either way he had saved us and made our retreat possible. "Good luck comrade. Make it to Market and there'll be a whole bottle of moonshine waiting for you!".

"Chris, remember to close the door behind you." I walked forward through the tunnel, looking for an exit. I found a door around the corner on the right. I figured I ought to wait till everyone's in to before I unleash something else.

Once the others had receded into the depths of the tunnel I kicked the hatch shut and dogged it (old ww2 naval term for permanently sealing a hatch). I then fell back and retreated into the darkness of new moscow. I imagine the last thing the others heard was the sound of gunshots fading away and the immense sound of the howler herd trampling over the hatch.

Ok guys sorry to cut off the chi in this thread but time for a new chapter and that means new thread and a community group.

"Damn, did he leave just sacrifice himself?! He better not get himself killed!" I hoped we would see him when we got to market. I opened the door in front of me, which, after an office, it connected to a metro tunnel.

It was comforting to be underground again, and a relief not to travel on the surface, which seemed extremely hostile. My heartbeat slowed to a normal pace, and I realized I had been terrified. I reloaded my kalash, and turned on the flashlight I had solidly attached to my gasmask. I followed Red Jacket into the Metro tunnel, the others following close behind. "Is everybody okay, was no-one hurt?" I asked, looking around at them.

"I'm fine, Steven," I said. " I've checked my map and compass, and from what I can gather, that direction will take us towards Market, if we're ready to go."

Hey guys, sorry to push in here. I'm new but I'd really like to join this. Only problem is; this thread has 8 pages and although the first ten posts or so were interesting to read, it's really late now and I don't have the time to go through the whole thing. Could someone just briefly fill me in on what has transpired so I have a basic understanding of what's going on? If you have the time, please do so; I'd appreciate it. :) By the time someone replies to this, it'll probably tomorrow but anyway.

We just left the Metro to get onto the surface, and after a fight with howlers, found a passage back into the metro. Just write something along the lines of "I saw a light in the distance, and so, picking up my rifle, I hid in the shadows. A group of men was walking down the tunnel..." blah blah blah. Enjoy!

"Okay", I said as I took off my gasmask, "Lets go."

Nice too have you here Bamul :)

"Be aware that the compass might go crazy. These walls are made of a special material, so don't put your trust on the compass completely."

Although the magnetism might have gone away by from all the radiation, I wasnt too sure.
They made the walls here magnetic, because they made a discovery that magnetism would help a little bit against radiation, atleast as much too take out the dangerous part.
The only side effect is that the magnetism goes away after a while. But they thought of that too, by puttin up concrete walls inside while having the magnetism outside and help the concrete to resist a bit more.

'Who knows what hell is breaking loose up there?'. I didnt expect a reaction from the rangers, nor did I get one, merely they just cast their eyes casually at the ceiling. Each man kept their thoughts to themselves, not wanting to share their fears about what had happened to the brave stalker who had sacrificed himself so that we may live. It was actions such as this which showed that humanity hadnt died along with civilisation. There was still hope in these hard times.

Okay, I shall have a go at this. How many of you is there? Three? And who plays who, what are your forum and in-game names. If all of you could tell me that'd be great. :) Anyway, from what I read, I think there's three of you. Here I go:

After that brief (but vicious) encounter with a pack of some nasty Nosalises, I kept running forward into the tunnel in case any of the stragglers came back to finish me off. I kept pushing forward in a rush of adrenaline, without realizing that the few mutants that weren't slain were long gone. After a few seconds, I saw a light in the distance. I was either too shook up to notice it before or it only just appeared. Without thinking through my next move, I stopped; breathing heavily, my heart was racing. I shouted: "Hey, over here. I'm human, don't shoot Comrades!" whilst struggling to catch a breath.

Thankfully, I didn't turn on my flashlight so my position wasn't given away. After all, I had no idea what the group's intentions were. For all I knew, I could've been walking into a Nazi patrol. But I didn't think anything through, I was in shock and still recovering from the previous fight that took place just a few minutes ago. As my senses came back to me and I heard the sound of heavy footsteps coming in closer & closer, I gripped my modified Kalash tightly in case of a hostile encounter.
