Yeah, I got it cheap off steam when it first came out. You just buy it once and they release updates. I can understand wanting to wait, but it is gonna work like minecraft and always have new updates. People thing the zombies in Minecraft are creepy, they are worse in 7 days to die.

I believe that Minecraft set a dangerous precedent in that regard. It was the first Alpha game to really take off, with people paying out the nose for it before it was even half way into development. Soon people saw how easily you could make money if you did development on the fly so...

There's one called minetest, which is basically minecraft, but it's written in C++ which means it's not limited in a lot of the ways that minecraft is (for example, there's no height limit for building).

A free sandbox game called The blockheads is similar, but it's 2d and isn't a carbon copy of minecraft in my opinion. It just reminded me of it. You can download it for free in the google play store so I'm not complaining. It's no minecraft though.

Yeah I used to play that one, it's actually really well built, with a great design. With it being free, you can't really complain, but I think it's more a terraria clone than a minecraft clone.

There is a free alternative called Terasology that is open-source. I'm planning on just sticking to Minecraft. It does look pretty though.

I've seen a couple of them on steam, can't think of the names, nor have I played them. But I don't think I'd really enjoy something like that.

I don't really enjoy the clones. They aren't as well coded and tweaked as Minecraft, most of them are just made for pure profit of the author of the game.

I'm not really bothered by these MineCraft rip offs, the developers of those games can choose what they want to do, some developers of the minecraft team even supported some of the games, saying that some of them had potential.

I've never played a clone unless you can consider Terraria a clone like other people in this thread have.

As others have said - Minecraft in itself is a clone of Infiniminer, and was not completely thought through by Notch; Infact, Notch pitched his ideas and the game to anonymous image boards, in where he received praise for how entertaining it was. Obviously, at some point he turned to Reddit.

Criticizing clones (unless they're trying to be identical) doesn't advance the genre.

They all suck in my opinion. And their morals aren't in place ether. They just want to make money, so they rip off the style of an amazing game that sold very well. They don't want you to enjoy yourself or the game. They just want cash. But then again, who doesn't?

Oh god. I got...gifted? One called Dwarfs!?

It's like a rip off of Minecraft and Dwarf Fortress combined in one, and it's as horrible as you'd think.

I don't mind rip-offs because it shows that the formula works as long as the rip-off is good. What I can't stand are those cheap, blatant rip-offs that make the concepts of Minecraft suck. CastleMiner Z for one looks quite fun actually, something different if you're bored with how Minecraft looks.

No, I have never played a clone of minecraft that I have enjoyed or even liked playing. I think that minecraft is amazing itself and nothing else is better or as good as it. I hardly even bother for searching any clones due to this game, but when I do I am never satisfied with them.

Minecraft has practically turned into a genre of games, along with DayZ. Go browse through the Steam early access games and you can see most of them are based off of Minecraft, DayZ or both of the games. Unfortunately most of these games aren't very good so far and the devs make money from selling an unfinished product.

I haven't come across a single game imitating the formula. I had no idea there were even clones of this floating around. I guess its to be expected with anything that reaches the level of popularity Minecraft has I just somehow never heard of any until now.

I don't like it when people keep saying that any game that has cubes is a Minecraft rip-off. I have only seen a few Minecraft rip-offs ever. The ones that people often say are rip-offs, which are completely different are 7 days to die,Terraria,Roblox,Unturned, and basically any game with blocks. Whenever it is a Minecraft rip-off it has to have all the same MECHANICS as Minecraft, not just the same aesthetics.

I've never tried a Minecraft clone. I didn't really think they existed to be honest. The closest thing I've come to seeing that is the mobile version of the game for iPad, and even that I think is made by the makers of Minecraft.

The only Minecraft rip-offs that I've seen are either the underrated ones with the same textures/graphics as Minecraft and definitely those really unprofessional Mobile applications. Those applications are just sickening and ghastly in my opinion. I'm not completely sure why people are calling Terraria a "clone" of Minecraft because its not meant to be nor does it even have anything to do with Minecraft. I don't think 7 Days to Die is a Minecraft clone either.

A game that involves building your own shelter, fighting off monsters or basically any other fiction/non-fiction survival game is not always a direct clone or rip-off of Minecraft. That is what all Minecraft fans should know.
