Well if you're running a recording program, a game, a webbrowser, teamspeak, utorrent and maybe another program at the same time, it'll lag a bit

As thestalker has said, there's no need for a soundcard.

Also, RAM is essential. My lousy 3 gigs of RAM is what is dragging down my very good GPU, along with my weak CPU (and I don't have a motherboard that can support such upgrades). 8 gigs of RAM might seem like overkill now, but I assure you that it is worth it. It will be more than enough for now, but with the jump to next-gen consoles, I'm sure that PC developers will finally be able to set up new boundaries and the 8 gigs will come in very handy then.

Not to mention that even now you'll be able to carry out many more operations at the same time and record gameplay footage real-time with a decent frame rate. Besides, prices of RAM sticks are quite low now and who knows what it will be like in one or two years. So yeah, I'd say definitely stick with the 8 gigs if you can afford it.

The 850 Watt PSU is quite a lot, but if you plan on doing some upgrades later on, then you'll need the extra power... I'm just not sure if as much as 850. You'll have to ask some experts about that (also, make sure that you pick a reliable manufacturer - the PSU is the last thing you want to cheap out on as it is the backbone of every system; if that blows, your whole system is fried). From what I've heard, Thermaltake is a fine manufacturer of power supply units. They're not top of the line, but definitely good and even great for their prices. Still, it would be best to check with others who have more experience with their products.

As for the SSD; a computer generally reads things faster from an SSD than it does from a HDD. If you have the extra bucks, I highly recommend going for it. Once you have it, you could install your OS on it and that would surely make most actions a bit faster and smoother. Installing the more demanding games should also make them run/load slightly faster. However, most SSDs have quite low storage memory, so if you want to get one then I suggest also picking up a HDD for all the additional space that you will likely need if you want to do a lot of gaming (new games come with some really large install sizes lately). I'd say no less that 1 TB of memory should be sufficient.

Eliminated the sound card. Got a lower voltage, higher quality PSU.

Yep, the difference in pricing between 4GB and 8GB is super small so I figure, "why the hell not?".

I'd really love to get an SSD but the price is almost budget-breaking, to be honest. And the slight performance boost doesn't justify it. I can certainly add it later on.

Damn is there anywhere cheaper to get components from in America? Seems expensive to me.

Also that GPU is only 1.3Gb (I think) which will struggle with the latest Ultra games. 2Gb should be minimum imo.

Could you recommend a higher-tier one? Preferably from NVIDIA, as recommended in previous posts.

It will be very expensive if those newegg links are anything to go by. I paid £290 each for my GTX670, what does that translate to in dollars?

Did you get any response from those computer forums I linked to?

I didn't check the forums, *slaps self*. I did check the tech board on 4chan however and they were helpful.

Is there something between 470 and 300 that's like, mid-high? Or do I have to choose between the two?

I've never used any Razer stuff, but all of it looks great and I heard that it performs likewise. Still, it is quite expensive so it just depends on how much more you're willing to spend on this.

I recently read an article about a Razer mouse needing online activation for its 'special functions'.

    EDIT: Here it is.

Hey guys, it's been a while. I've been working a lot of hours, but I will soon be able to afford my gaming rig; just thought I'd show you guys my wishlist. I've made quite a few changes so that everything works together.

    https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=29273108

EDIT: The link doesn't work even though the wishlist is public. How odd.

    Anyways, here it is.

    CPU - i5 3750k
    Mobo - ASUS LGA 1155 Intel Z77
    GPU - EVGA GTX 660
    Ram - 2x4GB DDR3
HDD - Western Digital Black 1TB
Case - COOLER MASTER HAF 922
    Monitor - 23'' Acer S231HLbid
Keyboard - Microsoft Sidewinder X4 (recommended earlier)

Miscellaneous speakers, monitor, headset, keyboard and mouse. Doesn't really matter :3
