That's a good point, I wonder if there will be any special collectibles (Assassin's Creed flags, anyone?) and if it'll be for achievements or if they will give you some kind of bonus armour or outfit.
They seem to nail it down pretty okay in Assassin's Creed so I don't think they'll be having any problems pulling this one off the hat. One thing though, since this is a shooter I'm expecting a lot of linear path, like barrels and stuff blocking roads to prevent you from going there, all that sort of stuff. It would be great if the openness would look seamless in a way that you don't really notice the barriers between what you can go and not go through.
Some secret areas would be great, but they could have a negative impact on Multi-player, it depends how much of a tactical advantage you could get by knowing about them. If theres only a minimal advantage over other players by using them then it'll be perfect, otherwise you'll just have more experienced players getting even more advantages over new players.
I am hoping for enough side-quests to carry the game onwards, there is only so many "open worlds" one person can play through before they all start to feel the same and all start to act the same. I think what populates the world will be what is the most important thing.
If there are going to be side quests, I hope it's just not busywork. Else I'd just want more main missions even if it means that they're going to sacrifice the open world for it, because they're usually the most refined and fun things to do in these kinds of games.
If there's an advantage, trust me you'll find out about it soon enough. Those locations and secrets don't last long at all. I don't know about you, but I usually spend some time online reading guides and looking up tips & tricks for an online game I'm playing. Guaranteed there will be some filler mission, every game has them. That's why they're called side quests - not crucial to the main story at all and completely optional.
Well, it would be more closer to shout out or just an area that is there for decorative purposes. They wouldn't have secret game breaking weapons or anything of the sort...though if they did, then it would just be limited to single player only just to keep everything equal.
I don't think they will put secret areas, that's not really a thing they make in multiplayer games. Like you said, people will eventually know and then it won't be a secret anymore, wouldn't it?
Maybe, but not everyone looks up secrets and stuff. Most people will just play and not worry about it too much. I guess we can only speculate at this point, but I could see some secret areas being included with a cache of weapons or something; a small bonus but not something that will make you all-powerful.
At best I think they'll be putting some easter eggs here and there, that's probably more of a possibility.
You're probably right, something like maybe an ol' Abstergo computer or an Assassin's Creed poster. There might be an achievement associated to it also.
Ubisoft are known for getting the open world idea right. I am sure they will pull it off with flying colours.
Ubisoft has always been good at creating great open world experiences. Assassin's Creed, for example, is a game where I love exploring the worlds despite any other drawbacks the series might have.
Or even costumes taken from other games, I imagine. Ghost Recon Phantoms has some Assassin's Creed stuff in it that you can purchase, so I bet they'll do something similar in The Division.
Don't Ubisoft generally make really good open world games? I have no worries to be honest. I'm sure it'll be great.
