Actually, his idea sounds pretty cool. It would be like in the book; Artyom could meet people that would want a package delivered to another station or join him on his journey to the nearest shelter. The player could choose if they went with anyone and if so, with whom.

ah come on he is not a delivery boy maybe once or twice but seriously doing it like in assassins creed would be a fail because of it would get boring

    I never played Assassin's Creed.

And why is it such a bad idea? I mean there is plenty of folks that would be scared or too busy to enter the tunnels by themselfes, or even at all. I'm not saying every side mission should be deliver this. You know there are actually a very few side missions in Metro 2033 right? Just thought that a bit more would be cool. Would give people another reason to go explore, other then the select few who actually just likes the games and want to see everything.

Anywho, I'm sure the developers could come up with some crazy cool ideas IF they decided to implement some side quests.

Yeah I could see some sort of "mercenary" thing in the game as well. People for hire. Or, could also be people that actually like you, depending on choises you've made earlier, that would offer theeir help until the next station because oyu saved their family or something. Or something third, hey Artyom, I'm heading to that station as well, I'll pay you for getting me there safely kind of thing.

My thoughts exactly. :) Obviously, not everyone would like that but who says it can't be optional? I mean, that's why they're called side quests after all.

Nope, not a good idea. Keep it story driven. Have you noticed that in Metro 2033, every single level is different? You never go "Oh, this is just that level with the soldiers again", or "Oh great, just more mutants!". It is totally story driven, and everything relates to the story.

Aye, I did notice. And I love it for that.

But as Bumal said, we all have different oppinions. I would HATE to see Metro turn in to an open world. I loved that it was linear and it mostly related to the main quest. But in my oppinion, there is always room for improvement. And I'd say that a few side quests, that opts in for more exploration, would be a very nice addition.

Side quests doesn't mean that it couldn't be unique.

I'm just sure that there are plenty of folks out there in the metro that could use the help from a brave hunter.

But as I said, different oppinions. And I wouldn't mind a game like 2033, with close to no side quests, and only one path to follow. Just saying, this COULD be better if you asked me.

Yeah, it wouldn't be forced upon you. And of course it should be like that IF you opt NOT to do them, it shouldn't make the game any harder.

A response to someone having difficulties shouldn't be, do the side quests. They should make them TOTALLY optional for people who would like to help, and who would like to explore, not just for the fact that they were exploring. Gives people a reason to go look in every nook and cranny of the world.

But I'm glad I'm not the only one with those ideas

Well, there were a few side quests in 2033, the biggest one being the radio beacon on top of the building. But they intergrated it into the linear story, and it was awesome. So yeah, it might be cool. I do like your point about making them optional and "It shouldn't make the game any harder". If they can do this, sure, I guess it would be very cool.

    Linear ftw

    Linear please.
Focus on the important stuff. I think the linearity is not taking away much of Metros potential. But making a game non linear requires more effort meaning that this might lead to a loss of gameplay. Non linearity will also make it much harder to keep the game flow up and the atmosphere as awesome as in Metro2033.
This is why I think linear is better - in this case.

That would be a good idea, but I hate facebook. I'd rather not go on it again.

Yep, fb is a terrible time-waster. Can't blame you!

Anyway, back on topic, maybe the main character could make choices: help this guy, or help that guy... kinda makes it a different playthrough each time, but with no major differences?

    what about this....

Hey everyone, I stumbled upon this thread whilst randomly surfing the intarwebs in anticipation of the release of Metro: Last Light, and I felt I had to have my say even though it appears this thread is long dead. Unlike Metro 2033, Last Light isn't going to be based around the novels by Dmitry Glukhovsky, as a result of this the developers have free rein to decide where the story goes. It is my personal hope that they choose to give the game multiple possible endings based on in game descisions, such as, you become the supreme ruler of the metro and the newly established above ground colonies, or you join one of the many factions among the metro, such as the communists or the fascists, given that they are not following a set story this is all entirely plausable. making the game not necessarily linear, but instead a 'choose your own ending' sort of situation.

I'm fairly certain that at some point they said that they are going to bring back something similar to the moral points.

Metro 2033 allowed quite a bit of exploration and different ways through levels but still kept it linear, I say keep it how it is.
