I normally kill zombies until I get a carrot and then promptly make a carrot farm. Carrots are an average source of food and they are quite easy to obtain. They also grow very fast so you can stockpile a huge load of them.

Finally, another carrot-lover. I usually too have carrots (and sometimes potatoes). Just casual with a chicken farm for something extra.

Baked potatoes, which are probably considered OP by many people because you often get multiple potatoes (up to 4) from a single crop, they grow twice as fast as wheat (Wiki), and restore as much hunger+saturation as cooked chicken, without the need to breed animals, even if just throwing eggs. I don't dedicate much space to potatoes but easily grow more than enough for my needs; they are nearly 10 times more space efficient than wheat per hunger+saturation unit. You have to cook them but I have a virtually infinite supply of coal (and get more all the time); wood is also easy to get (one log made into planks is 2/3 as effective as coal/charcoal, if not able to smelt much with a full stack of fuel).

Sure, they aren't as good as steaks and porkchops, but that doesn't really matter unless you are in PvP (you want your hunger to outlast theirs for healing/sprinting), which I don't do; I take down 3 stacks on a caving expedition and use up the same number of stacks of logs in making torches before I run out of food, usually have most of a stack left over (I eat bread from chests and zombie drops, but that doesn't add up to much in comparison).

Well at first when you are starting off and have to rush due to having no food, I usually just take the route everyone else does. The Wheat - Bread route. Do that for a bit and then use the wheat to lure animals into a pit. Everything really starts with Wheat because if you want a well established farm of animals you need the seeds to lure chickens and then wheat to lure Cows.

Hunting and fishing are what I do mostly for food.

I like carrots a lot also. I don't usually get them from killing zombies though- I tend to wander until I find a village and steal my carrots from them.

For a first source of food, though, I generally go with bread. Seeds are so easy to find and hoes so easy to make that a small wheat farm is manageable right away. I don't like relying on animals for food since they can be hard to come by in certain areas and they don't respawn the way they used to. Animal farming takes a lot more to start up in my experience.

When you're starting from the ground up, it's a good idea to kill a few (and only a few!) pigs and chickens to have some food to survive on. After that, it's a really good idea to invest a few minutes in smashing grass to collect seeds to plant.

In the long run, when you're building, bread will be the easiest & best resource to get because it only heals 2 hunger bars and is very easy to make.

For the first day I usually kill a few cows or pigs and cook them, which is enough food to last me a good few days or so. After getting that temporary food supply I will immediately start on a small wheat farm with 18 seeds as a beginning, and use the wheat to craft bread, and slowly expand the farm over the next couple of days as I obtain more resources. If I'm lucky enough to find melon seeds I will plant them as those are currently my favourite source of food and most efficient in my opinion. You can build an automated melon farm and for each full harvest you can supply 8 points of hunger (8 melons).

I agree completely. That's my strategy as well, just kill a few animals for a temporary food source and make a wheat farm. When I have that, I just expand my farm with everything else I can find, like carrots and potates from villages, sugar canes, etc. I also get all the animals I can find, because you never know what may come in handy! ;)

I always kill a couple of pigs on the first day but try to set up a big wheat farm as soon as possible. I should start using fishing more since it's easy and gives you lots of food quickly.

I usually get all of my food from animals, I end up slaughtering a lot of pigs and cows on the very first day. If I ever run out of food I go out and kill zombies to eat their rotten flesh, life is good.

My main source of food is meat from animals. I only really get vegetables and stuff when I loot gardens from towns. I don't have the patience to grow my own food myself. Wish they had fruit trees/bushes growing in the wild. I'd definitely spend some time gathering.

I usually use watermelon because you can make a massive automatic watermelon farm pretty easily, also, they stack.

I usually go with whatever I find. I'm not a big fan of bread, so it's mostly pork or beef. It also depends on the world I'm playing, I got a world where a lot of pigs spawn around my house, so I usually kill them for food.

Bread is definitely the way to go because it's the easiest food source. Get yourself a wheat farm and you have bread for days.

When I create a new world, I start exploring right away. I need to find a good place for my base. While I'm at it, I kill some sheep to get enough wool for a bed an kill some other animals to stock up on food. I never really bother with crops since there is an abundance of animals that fill more hunches than bread.

I usually stick with cows, so generally I hunt and stock up, then cook the meat. On a good day I'll have enough to last me 10-12 days of continuous work, seeing as cows and pigs and such are easy enough to find whilst collecting other supplies so it isn't a major inconvenience to stop and collect a few here and there.

I usually end up making an animal farm. Cooked beef is my primary source of food.. Sometimes I'll settle for porkchops if I'm running low on cows (which is really rare.) I never really put much time into making other things, like pumpkin pie or mushroom stew just because I don't see much of a point in doing it.
