I jerked around at the sound of some one calling out to me and saw a man running to me. "Who are you!?" I asked suspiciously as I griped my 45. a little tighter incase he turned out to be a threat, Dolgov was one thing, but this could be a bandit.

"I saw you fall onto that roof not long ago, so I came here to check if you were alive." I said as I tried to catch my breath. "Do you need any help? Name's Prizrak, by the way." I said as I held out a hand to the stranger.

 

I stared for second at the man trying to gauge him, after a minute I gripped his hand and shook. "Jack." I responded. "and Thanks, but I doubt you could do a much better job than I did at patching me up." I said as i gestured at my bandaged wounds, I turned and looked in the direction were I figured dolgov might be, Even though i just met him I wasn't going to abandon him, I would never leave anyone behind ever again. I turned back to the Prizrak."listen, thanks for concern, but I have to find a comrade of mine, we were both heading to the university before we got attacked." I said and hoped my pistol would be enough to handle any mutants along the way.

 

"The university, huh? It's a dangerous path." I said. Jack couldn't possibly make it there if he couldn't find his partner. Or if couldn't find his partner alive."I'll come with you. The more men you have on your side, the higher your chances of getting to the university."
I was going to help this man. Even if it meant my death, because I finally had a chance to achieve my dream. To see the university.

 

I sighed mentally.'at this rate, we'll have a small army by the time we get to the university.' I thought amused, I turned to him full face. "alright then, we better get moving and hopefully we'll meet up with my buddy along the way." I said calmly, I sighed out loud this time and began to walk toward the university while keeping an eye out for dolgov, the wound on my leg was not helping my walking that was for sure.

 

The train was starting to get slower, going from speeds that where unheard of in this world, to a snail pace. Then the train activated it's breaks, stopping it faster than anything in this destroyed world.
"alright everyone, we're getting off now" i remarked while gesturing to my lab. I waited for their reaction to what they saw. A lab with robots, tanks, future guns, and even an experimental mech suit in it. just how would they react after so long in this disgusting metro?......................

 

I overhear the conversation between Jack and Prizrak, pausing for a few seconds to determine if he newcomer was hostile to Jack before determining he was not. I approach slowly and halt about a hundred and fifty yards away, crouching beside a dumpster.

It smelled like it could contain the seeds I needed, and might contain other useful salvage too. I lift up the lid and release it with a clang to get Prizrak's and Jack's attention. Before the nuclear apocalypse, people threw unwanted plant matter into containers like these, along with lots of other refuse. A brief look into the dumpster reveals it contains a few items of broken furniture, among which are wooden planks and sections of sufficient length to splint Jack's leg.

Rather than walk towards them and risk being shot by the newcomer, I was going to see his reaction to an unarmed mute in Fourth Reich rags first. I begin scraping away at the dirt again with my fingers, as I always compulsively do, while watching them out of the corner of my eye.

 

As I followed Jack to his partner's location, I noticed a man in a tattered uniform digging through the ground with his bare hands. I tapped Jack's shoulder, getting his attention and pointed to the man.

 

I paused at prizraks Shoulder tapping and turned to see dolgov doing his.......digging in the ground thing. I limped over to him while motioning prizrak to keep his weapon down. "Good to see you didn't die Dolgov!" I said somewhat glad to see he was alive, I turned to prizrak. "This is dolgov." I said Calmly, truthfully I was waiting to see his reaction to dolgov. "Dolgov this prizrak." Now i wait and see.

 

I stop digging, stand up, and stare blankly at Prizrak through the lenses of my gas mask.

For a few long, tense moments, there is just silence; before I reach into a pocket and produce something completely unexpected.

A fresh, red, ripe apple; just like those in photographs from back in 2012, free of mutations and poisoning, from a mysterious source that I would not reveal even if I was capable of speech. A healthy, wholesome food that could not possibly have grown underground in the Metro.

I hold it out in my hand to the two men, offering it in a gesture of friendship.

 

"Wow." was all I could say as I looked at the surprisingly fresh apple. I took the apple from him, muttering "Thank you". I quickly put the apple in my backpack, afraid that it would be radiated if it was exposed to the radiation of the surface for too long. I was not going to lose such a rare thing to the radiation. I turned to Jack and asked: "Well, now that we've found your friend, shall we continue towards our destination?"

 

"yeah, i suppose we should." I said, I then turned To dolgov. "So dolgov, can I have back my guns that your carrying?" I asked him, honestly I was surprised he had even brought them, I had thought at least one of them been crushed or broken.

 

I tug them out from behind the dumpster where I had placed them and hand them to Jack, grasping them barrels first and then dropping them into his hands, as if I had no concept of which end was more dangerous or if they might be loaded.

I change my filter and wait for either man to move.

out of character knowledge - double-barrelled shotguns and AKs are among the world's most durable firearms. Don't drop rubble on an American or French rifle

 

I lazily walked on for hours, how long have I been in this place? Where is the exit?
My gaze turned to a pair of tracks, and a small maintenance car, I stepped aboard, and began to operate the lever, following the echoes of noise in the distance

 

Huh, i didn't know that, well the one about the 2x barrel. everyone knows the AK is one of the most durable rifles out there, at least they should.

I Griped my duplet and holstered in its old holster over my left shoulder, I then picked up my AK and Pulled out the clip checking it before I grabbed the charging handle and pulled it back checking the firing chamber. After making sure everything was okay, I turned to my fellow Stalkers. "okay lets move, the sooner we get to the university." I turned and started limping to university, I stopped and turned back around staring at Dolgov. "And next time, YOU get carried off by the demon." I said jokingly before continuing.

 

A short time after we found Dolgov, I noticed that he was unarmed. He didn't even have a knife. "Dolgov, how do you survive without a weapon? I know, being stealthy works most of the time but in this goddamn hellhole, you'll be alone, and you'll come face to face with a monster or a bandit ready to tear you apart at one point or another."
And right after I finished my sentence, two Watchers jumped directly in front of us. "Well, crap," I muttered as I reached for my FN Five-Seven pistols.

 

I snapped my rifle up and fired a large burst into one of the watchers, and Immediately pain flared across my chest. I collapsed to one knee Breathing hard, the wound on my chest was thrumming with pain. 'Okay.' I thought hazily as blackness started to creep into my vision. 'definitely not doing to good.' I coughed haggardly as I put the but of my rifle on the ground to stabilize myself.

 

I do not understand any human speech and do not appear to notice Prizrak speaking to me. Before he could complete his sentence, I am suddenly bolt away..and then the Watchers arrived. I noticed them and reacted well in advance, and immediately began scaling a nearby fire ladder.

I haven't always been lucky enough to get away unscathed. Deep scars are visible through the holes in my clothing. I wait atop the ladder on an upper floor, out of reach of the monsters, until it is safe for me to return.
