Nah, throw them into the game ad nausea - Part of the games charm, and will probably stay that way forever.

To please mainstream audiences, yes you should, because that's how you normally approach video games. However, Minecraft is not a normal video game. And half the fun in the beginning, is learning everything step by step. Yes, you got a wood log. Good for you. Search up what to turn it to. Oh, 4 wooden planks. Oh wow, I can place it down! What else can I make it to? My advice, experiment and discover. Of course, there willbe a time when you have to search up something, like a bed or a painting, but for the most part, be the essence of Minecraft which is summed up in three words: Simple and Fun.

For the more advanced things such as redstone construction, etc then I think there should be a tutorial for that. But other than that, nope.

I don't think it really needs one.. It's easy to figure out for the most part. I don't know if there's one on the website or not, but if there isn't, maybe there should be that, but that's about it, nothing more.. I think it would be kind of pointless.

Yeah, definitely. It's good to have a tutorial mode for newcomers but just for the basics and stuff. I dislike having to play through tutorials for hours, it gets very confusing and I have very bad memory. Just tell us the basics and leave us to discover things.

There basically is, the achievements help you take baby steps to learn how to play.

What drew me to MC was the lack of information. Especially since I started playing way back when nobody had really heard of the game. At first I had no clue what the few people that were exited about it were so into. I was really confused but curious. So I tried it several time. I won't lie but at first I just didn't get it. But people kept talking about so I gave it several tries until I got it. I really think that finding things out on your own is a big part of its appeal.

I think part of the magic is finding out most of the mechanics for yourself. Plus the achievements give a rough guideline to new players already.

Eh, the basics should be taught to new players without them having to google or search for it (like a getting started guide). There is a lot to learn however so they will eventually go to the wiki or something.

I think it's not necessary that Minecraft should have in-game tutorial but a crafting menus will be awesome so that you should know what to build/create to survive. When I started playing this I watched a various youtube videos and looked at crafting recipes at wiki.

I think not having a tutorial was one of the reasons I got hooked with this game. Being thrown out in an open world, not a clue what to do, adds an element of surprise and excitement. It's pretty easy to pin down the gameplay, too, so I think a tutorial isn't really necessary.

I can see both sides of this. Those absolutely beginners to the game would have no idea where to start. I had people to help me get into it, but someone who is just trying it out on their own would have no clue. Some kind of very small and vague tutorial would be cool, but it is also an aspect of the game to learn.

Yes, it would be helpful for new people. I had no idea on how to create a crafting table for like a week! A tutorial would of vastly helped me!
