Xenosaga (PS2), Xenogears (ps1) spiritual successor on Wii.

Plays similar to Final Fantasy 12, has open areas to explore, crafting, hundreds side quests, 80-100 hours gameplay.

Path of Exile is multiplayer, but can easily be played solo. Same with the original Guild Wars, in which you can use NPC characters in your party. Guild Wars 2 might be the same way, but I haven't played it.

I know you mentioned Borderlands. This is the closest I've found to a MMORPG style game for consoles. If you've already played both games I would recommend the added DLC content for either game. They are a lot of fun and add hours of enjoyment to the base game.

I highly recommend Guild Wars 2. While it is an MMO at heart, you buy it once and can play it without a subscription fee, forever. You also get all additional content that they might release for free, and the game is very story driven can be easily played without others. The only things you need a group for, are dungeons and world bosses.

I definitely plan on playing Guild Wars when I upgrade my PC. More than anything else the artwork for that game looks really cool. The fact that it is story driven is just icing on the cake at this point.

You should definitely get it, the artwork is gorgeous, the different origin stories of the different races is awesome as well. I think Guild Wars 2 is the most story driven MMORPG currently available.

One of the key elements of MMORPGs is player interaction. So you can't really have an MMO experince offline.

If you like Terraria you should really try Starbound. It is nearly the same game the only difference is that you have a lot of planets to explore in Starbound.

I agree, definitely check out Starbound. I can`t wait until the game comes out of beta and gets properly released. The idea is awesome, and I like everything about that game, from the art style to the gameplay from what I`ve seen so far.
