Spammers ARE HERE

Now there's spamming to the point that everytime legitimate users post 2 times, a bot posts 1 time. I don't think a new mod or 2 will solve this. We need better anti-spam filters.

 

It seems more like for every legitimate post, there are two spam posts...

I'm sure having anti-spam filters would help, or maybe even tighter restrictions for user-registration.

 

^ That. Most people who browse these forums are only guests anyway. When and if we do get a new member who registers, he's always smart enough to know how to, and they will still be if we make it more restrict, yet the spambots won't.

I have banned countless amounts of spambots and moved countless ammounts of spamthreads into the Trash Bin section during this one week
Today I even deleted twelve spamposts by one that isn't a bot.

Oh, and about that, remember what Von Streff said about the spambots who aren't selling stuff. They're easy to spot; strange names like clark10 or nonamed22, usually without a capital letter, and they make short posts that usually are two sentences somehow compressed into one sentence with huge grammatical errors, and either no capital letters at all, or only capital letters.

 

It's a shame that these spammers are still around... I take it they grew in numbers along with the forum?

It's a shame - you guys must have your hands full. I wish there was some way to get rid of them permanently and stop them from coming back.

 

I tried googling it, but what what I could tell, it seems that advanced forumcoding is required.

 

I hate when people do this, especially since theres the competition for LL DAMNATION!

 

Oh, that's alright, since there are more than a few legit members with higher post counts than those damned spammers. However, I've sort of given up on that competition (my long absence put me behind everyone), but I love this forum so I want to keep posting anyway.

 

I'm not going anywhere, just because we got spammer trying to invade our metro. I'll keep on reporting it till I'm blue in the face, but I sure will keep posting as normal.

 

Well we could create a group of mini-moderators, call them the Metro Death Squad. They'll comprise of people that have different time frames and ranges, and they'll be keeping our metros safe while Luster's dealing with the big fish.

 

actually that sound like a good iea. if we had a group of ppl with the ability to delete spam/advertising post, it would free our mods hands for more important things.

 

I agree, but then there's only more questions to be answered about that.

Although I must admit that I, at some few and rare points, decide to play games instead of administrating the forum, I must still brag about my efforts, as I have had to sacrifice a lot of playing lately. I've recently joined a HL2RP in Garry's Mod which really is calling for me at all times. Lately, I have also had long school days instantly followed by long driving lessons. I've come home one hour before my usual and adviced bedtime, and decided to administrate the forums instead of using my little while to play Garry's Mod. But my driving lessons are over (Finally), and I'll be here even more

 

Anyway, I have something that I deeply wonder about. Where do they come from? I mean, they must be coming from somewhere. A site? I don't think that someone sends them directly here. I think someone sends them out into the world of interwebs, and they find their way to our forum. Just.... Where? Where do they come from? What do they come from? I'm really curious about that.

 

It is a dark place that we do not speak of.
