Personally, I do a lot of strip mining, since you can see pretty much a 3x3 area. All you really have to do to avoid lava is to dig above the lava level, which is around where your Y-coordinate is 11 or so.

You could make strip mining safer by making checkpoints where you add chests each 50 blocks or so. This way, if you ever die, you do not lose as much materiel as possible. However, stay with the quarry method if necessary.

It is pretty good but I still prefer branch mining over anything. Strip mining is really unorganized and I need to always set up checkpoints to not get lost.

I used to do strip mining before but I stopped doing it because I died several times into the lava. So now, I'm doing quarry mining and not a single death happened to me.

Quarry mining is definitely the best way. That will help prevent you from dying from lava.

I definitely depends on what you want to achieve with your strip mining. If all you want is a lot of resources as fast as possible, it's not a bad way to go. If you want to play the game because it's fun, then I can't recommend strip mining at all.

Quarry Mining is probably the safest and efficient way to mine. It might take a lot of time and pickaxes, though. However, you can safely mine a large amount of resources without worrying about lava. Once you've reached Bedrock layer and finished mining, I suggest covering the surface with dirt, as you might accidentally fall off the mining pit.

It's always easier to mine together. Why not not grab a few friends of yours and set up a lan party and mine together? :D

Like Rgrimes said, digging to the bottom of the map is the best idea. I made a huge hole in the earth and just hollowed out everything. you'll find so many resources that way but keep in mind, it is very time consuming. Although this method works, I still have strip mines within my huge gaping hole. they're very efficient. The initial hole, however, gave me plenty resources to starts a nicely placed strip mine. There are many dangers to strip mining but if you start prepared then you have nothing to worry about. Here are some essentials you should bring with you: a stack of 60 candles, a bucket of water, plenty of pickaxes and a sword (just in case you need to ward off any suspicious creatures) One thing you might also want to bring is plenty of cobble stone and wood so you have a crafting table accessible for whatever last minute things you may need to build, including a stove. Those are a few things that could potentially make your mining experience a little less fearful and more prepared.

I think that quarry mining is one of the better ways to mine, but it also makes the land look kinda sucky. Personally I like everything to look really nice from the top, so I just make a staircase going down, or I try to find a cave that goes as deep as possible. That's just me, though.

Honestly, I find myself doing it out of boredom sometimes when I really want to find something, but for the most part I just walk around caves and ravines as it's a little more fun, albeit a little less fruitful.

When I do play, I tend to roughly plan my mining around creating an aesthetically pleasing and logical layout. I really enjoy kind of roleplaying as if I'm building a massive Dwarven mining complex. I once spent days mining out a massive layout and using the resources into a giant fortress wall around the mine entrance. I really enjoy doing things like that in sandbox games.

I often strip mine a lot because I don't really like to go into caves if I can avoid. I sometimes find that strip mining is a bit dangerous due to the random lava pockets but I've never died from it. I don't believe I've ever tried quarry mining because I wouldn't know where to even start it and how big it should be. Plus it'd be a huge hole in the ground while strip mining is all hidden which I really like.

I usually strip mine above level 12, usually 14 or 16 as that is diamond level. Strip mining has become a habit for me, if all caves have been starved of resources I often well strip mine!

It works if you do it cleverly, I generally don't because it seems to be consistently less effective and fun than spelunking the caves. The surface area of the caves is much larger so your probably more likely to find ores when going around the caves.

Yeah it is how I do it, all you have to do is be quick and back the fuck up when you finally run into the lava, you can get unlucky if you dig through an open space and fall into lava but its what you gotta do.

I typically start with a quarry mine then start strip mining after that. Quarry mining will pretty much guarantee at least some every resource which is nice early on when setting up shop. While later on I don't really need additional stones/dirt/coal/redstone nearly as much as diamonds/iron/gold so I switch to strip mining strategies unless I'm working on a major construction that needs tons of stone.

Really, what we call quarry mining is actually strip mining, but semantics aside 'strip mining' is the most efficient way to clear an area of resources. Quarry mining results in unnecessary amounts of cobblestone being excavated, which is not of much use to anyone (unless you are using the Equivalent Exchange mod).

quary mining is just easier and safer. I guess there are some advantages to strip mining, but they are minor compared to quary mining.

Strip mining is effectively better than searching for caves and mining in there. In strip mining you will hit veins very quickly in massive amounts. You also avoid mobs because they do not have the room to spawn in small strip mining sites. It does however have one drawback, it is so boring and repetitive which will make you want to quit the game for a long period of time. Something about just mining in a line for hours on end is extremely boring.

It's kind of a hit and miss thing. I've strip mined and found diamonds and other stuff while other times I sat there for 20 minutes and found 1 piece of iron. It really varies but that's my experience with it.
