I'm active on the Survarium Forums so yeah I'm looking forward too it.
It won't be pay to win because the things you can buy are only skins or level up bonuses etc..

I assume that Komodo just saw the PVP mode and don't like it because it is what all other FPS have too=It is Capture the flag on small maps. Maybe the other modes (Co-op and Freeplay) will impress him more I hope.;)

So I have been playing this beta for a while and it's actually pretty good. At first I expected something like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. so I was disappointed to find out it was PvP. Anyway I installed the game after I got a beta invite from my friend and it's actually pretty good. It has some pretty good matchmaking that keeps my K/D at just around 1:1 so they apparently have that aspect under control. My buddy who invited me is actually in the top 200 in the game now so he is obviously loving it. As it turns out the game will receive some more game modes later on in the development and I will look forward to that.

Bynke. I'm not sure which rank he is now, though.
    EDIT: 208, it appears.

Ok so I got the "Explorer" founder pack, which contains a beta invite. If any of you guys would be interested, please message me.
(I'm not just posting it here since random visitors would just take it)

Damn it, I wish I hadn't missed this. Well, I should probably spend my time studying anyway.

Played it a little bit, for an hour or so. Takes a while getting used to the menu system and all. Seems to only be one game mode, where you scavenge for batteries and defend your cache. The starting weapons are pretty garbage; the PPsH has crazy recoil and the muzzle flash just blocks out everything you're looking at when you fire it, and the Nagant, while a little bit better, still is pretty damn hard to make good use out of due to the ridiculous amount of sway on the damn thing; every time you sprint, or even just walk before aiming, it gives you a few seconds of pretty much useless sway, and there's just enough even while you're standing still to make long-ranged shots pretty difficult to pull off. Even lucky perhaps, with the moderate amount of spread on any weapon at range.

Game looks pretty good. No fancy special effects or anything going on here other than bloom and Ambient Occlusion, but the amount of detail in the grass is pretty crazy. Unfortunately not very well optimized yet it seems; I get random, occasional stutters and short framerate drops that make me feel like I'm playing Battlefield 4 again (nothing like having your controls stop responding for a second in the middle of a gunfight), and even the stable framerate never seems to jump up to all that high of levels.

It has a lot of cool ideas, and I'll definitely be giving it another chance, but as for right now it's got a lot of issues. The controls just aren't very fluid and responsive, the shooting mechanics make every fight feel more like a dice roll than a battle of skill and wits, the stamina bar is way too small, it has its fair share of glitches and server issues (I was feeling quite happy with my cross-map iron-sight snipe with the Nagant, until I realized that I had just gotten the killing hitmarker, but no credit for the actual kill), and the anomaly mechanics are never really explained at all, other than environmental hazards that seem to just straight up kill you.

Also, does this thing have an NDA, or can I post a video of a particular match where everybody randomly teleported around, half of my team was AFK, we got spawn killed repeatedly, I saw the death screen multiple times only to instantly be suddenly right back where I was with a gun still in my hand, had a kill on me count twice, and my camera kept desynching from my character model once or twice every minute or so?

So I got into the closed beta and... it's actually pretty good! Visually it is fantastic - the artistic direction is basically like Stalker though a bit more outlandish I'd say and it even reminds me of Metro at times. The graphics are considerably better technologically and much more up-to-date than the Stalker series, as it is a whole new engine (although it does still need much better optimization - ultra settings are somewhat playable on most maps, but high or medium are preferable for a smoother experience even on a good PC). The base gameplay model is fine and has hooked me in, it feels quite similar to Stalker and there is a lot of potential in it. Since the only game mode available in the beta at this moment is still only PvP, I can only share my impressions of that... but I can't really, because I'm not sure if what I want to say would count as violating the NDA. :eek:hwell:

To put it briefly and without going into too much detail, I can say that the PvP mode is a mixture of TDM and CTF. The TDM aspect being that there are two teams that compete against each other using lethal force and the CTF aspect being that there are 10 objects scattered around the map which each team tries to gather; the team with the most of these objects at their base at the end of the match wins. I was actually very surprised by how large and open the maps are, with plenty of hiding spots and opportunities for awesome sniping duels across the map (it's not as large as Battlefield 3, but there is so much more detail and there are different weather variants of some maps as well). Deadly anomalies and artifacts that boost your abilities are also featured. Gear is acquired by completing special tasks during each match and earning more reputation with your faction.

Overall, it is a very nice game already (though obviously still a beta, with small glitches and crashes still common), but the scheduled co-op mode will likely add some much needed diversity and later the freeplay mode will probably elevate Survarium to a whole new level of quality. I'm guessing it will be like Stalker, but session-based and more focused on survival than quests - à la DayZ (at least I think so, but I've never played DayZ so I may be wrong there). Everything in the game is still very post-Soviet, Eastern European and some of the sound effects may have actually been borrowed from Stalker. Generally, Survarium feels like its own game, but it shares enough similarities with Stalker to make long-time fans nostalgic and remind them of when they first sat down to play Shadow of Chernobyl over 7 years ago.

Everything is still a work in progress, but if Vostok Games continue heading in this direction and stay on schedule with their development timeline, then I sense much greatness ahead. :D

Either Vostok managed to change so much during the space of 3 months or I'm just extremely lucky to have had a seemingly much better experience than you did. However, some of the issues you mention are still present. As for how the guns are handled, I think really like it and I absolutely loved using the Mosin Nagant for sniping at first (now I've moved on to use other unlocked weapons though). Although there is some imbalance much like there was in Stalker with most shotguns except for the initial ones (e.g. the SPAS and the Benelli are absolute overkill, I was lucky to have unlocked one of them much ealier than I would have normally thanks to a random item drop at the end of a successful match once).

Poland is the next territory to get Open Beta for Survarium. :D We are also getting (possibly the first) boxed edition of the game with many goodies, both physical and digital. I can't wait for this! :)
