The end of the game?

Well, once the game is boring to you, why keep playing?
I know it's just to get to the endgame, but it says a lot about the rest of the game, the other 89 levels are just plain boring to most people.

Yeah but the thing is he can't wait to get home and log to play, however he just can't bare the thought of leveling lol. At least 85-90 levels as for the lower levels strangely he enjoys it.

What MMO is about leveling though? 85% of any MMO happens at max level. There's some cool stuff in questiong, but just about every player plays an MMO for the end-game content and end-game pvp.

For long-time players, the free 90 is a reason to keep playing.

I don't like this idea because one of the big things I've always liked about WOW is the fact that I feel like I accomplish something when I hit the high level of whatever expansion I'm in. I also get more engrained in the lore while leveling the more traditional way with quests, dungeons, and PVP. I think with what blizzard is doing now will make the lore almost insignificant,
    especially the lower levels.

I hope that this isn't the beginning of the end because I've really enjoyed playing since I've had an account and have been playing off and on for the last seven years now. I don't mind the free-to-play idea because it allows more people to experience wow even if they may not be able to afford the 14.99 a month.

To conclude this, I'd just like to say I hope blizzard doesn't go through with this because I do think it will critically hurt the overall health and well-being of the game as we know it. I truly believe that and so I hope either that I'm wrong or that blizzard will decide against this. Either way, great post, I'm glad you've brought this out into the open.

We'll see how Blizzard's introduction of character max level boosts is accepted when it goes live.
They tried replacing the item sellers with the Diablo III Auction House and we know how that went...
Now they are trying to replace the "chinese levelers"...

I think the idea that you can buy your way to max level for real money is just horrendous. Those 90 levels you have to go through are a tutorial, teaching you how to play your class effectively until you reach end game content, so you know what to do in end game raiding. Skipping that learning experience will fill the world with people new to their class without having a clue how to play it.

I believe that there is some kind of a tutorial you go through when you use a level 90 boost. With a decent tutorial and some proving grounds you can master your new character in no time.

Hopefully so, they did something similar when they launched Wrath of the Lich King, when you rolled a Death Knight you got your abilities slowly introduced to you, and that way you could be up and going at level 65 right away.

I don't think you even need a tutorial, even if you're brand new to the game. The basic game mechanics are so simple these days. Obviously, it takes practice to become really great at a class, but learning the basic controls wouldn't take much time at all.

Well, maybe the game changed a lot since BC days, I honestly don`t know. Maybe raiding got easier in general, or maybe WoW took to catering to newer players and simplified its gameplay. However, back in BC, if you would go raiding top tier end game bosses, the first requirement was that any and all raid members knew their class perfectly. Even the simplest of failures could result in wipes and frustration.

Yea, the game really has changed to cater to casuals. Doing anything at a high level, whether PVE or PVP requires knowing your class extremely well. But stuff like LFR, dungeon ques, and even Flex raids really make it simple to see all the content without being in that top-end guild

Well I think catering to casuals is ok! When I was a kid I could play 6 hours daily, now-a-days I see how foolish it is.

That's definitely true, the older I get the less time I have for gaming, especially an MMO, which usually require a long time of dedication.
I can still manage to squeeze a couple of hour in every day though :)

I get being tired of leveling, but isn't that the name of the game? That's one of the goals. It seems to me like it's just more lazy people who want to be able to be a high level and will have no idea how to actually play their level and class. Arg. Very frustrating to say the least.

Blizzard is always adding things and while it seems slow for some people they are still making progress. You can not take something that big and take every single idea tossed in and add it right away. Stuff takes time, people seem to give up too easy too.

I have been sick for the past three days (and quite behind in my work so I am catching up now). But what did I do for most of today while running a fever? Played World of Warcraft and ate a bunch of medicine to kick this nasty illness of course.

People who don't go through the process to level on their own (hello, paid high levels, you are all are evil) don't deserve to be in the game. Learn your toon, roll what you want and excel at it - stop being lazy.

I doubt it. Blizzard has made huuuuuge money on WoW. I remember when I first started playing it, I was like 11 or so. I just hate that they've destroyed the lore with all the new expansions. Sometimes, I enjoyed more reading the lore than playing the game. If they allowed this, only donors would've played. Everyone else would just quit. It'd be a bad move.

I don't think it's the end of the game, but it does seem largely unnecessary. Although, I'm sure they have their reasons for doing that and will explain further soon. At least, that's the reaction I would've had.

I honestly don't mind because over the years leveling a billion alts, I'm sick of doing the same quests over and over again to try and power level a class that I already know how to play. I've leveled a dozen druids to max level on various servers back in the height of my addiction to the game. I'm burned out on leveling from 1-85 zones. There's only so much repeating the same quests over and over you can handle before you just walk away. That's part of the reason why I quit when MoP came out and I started playing GW2 heavily.
