I had a LAN with my bud in the camper this weekend. The internet connection isn't very good out there, so we went inside at 3 at night and asked my father to fix an extra internet-box. He used ages, so we ended up watching a movie, from the middle of it.
The House Of Wax it was called. I'm telling you, guys, that was the weirdest and strangest movie that I have ever seen in my entire freaking life!

    Plot:
Appareantly, there were two siamese twins which were separated face-from-backhead at birth, and when they were adults, the one with the scarred face wore a mask of wax and began killing everyone in the city and turned them all to wax. They were alive and could move their eyes, but they were completely stiff and couldn't move, and were made of wax. Some guy found his friend and managed to pull his arm straight off, then touched his face and managed to peel off his flesh and skin down to the jaws.

The two main characters was a girl and her brother. The brother was the same actor as "Lukas" from "One Tree Hill". He used a crossbow and shot the bad guy who turned people into wax in the chest. Then they ran to his house to do something, and he survived and came after them. Then they managed to light the house on fire, and the house was made of wax, and there was wax everywhere just splashing around and melting like nasty goo and.... Man, you just gotta see it! xD

Is that the movie with Paris Hilton in it? Big stupid blonde girl? I think I've seen a bit of it. What an odd movie!

Damn... I never had high hopes for it, but still sucks......

Last movie? The original 'Omen'. Interesting, but totally has no basis in the actual Church teaching on the subject. For one thing, God would never ask us to crucify a child! :p

Yep, mini-rant done. Pretty well acted movie, though.

The last movie I watched was "Skyfall". A great movie, but not the best Bond movie ever, like some critics have said. Great acting by both Craig and Bardem, and lots of nice wordplay and allround good dialogue. Casino Royale is my favorite Bond movie, because I think some of the older ones lacked "balls".

    Hodejegerne (aka Headhunters)

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Truly one of the most thrilling, well-written and entertaining crime dramas I've seen in a while. Can't really judge the performances as my exposure to the Norwegian language is limited to a manly fistful of black metal albums and a dusty dictionary that confuses the crap out of me, but as far as I could tell everything sounded very natural and convincing.

The main character (Roger) looked like something that would happen if you'd put Steve Buscemi & Christopher Walken in a blender.

    7.5/10

ps: That's the second time a Norwegian flick pleasantly surprises me. 2010's Trolljegeren (aka Troll Hunter) was the first.

X-Men: First Class... a blockbuster film, obviously, but much better than I thought it would be. Of all the X-Men movies out there (including Origins Wolverine), this is probably the best. Sure, that doesn't mean much, but it is quite nice & shallow entertainment. However, Fassbender's performance as young Magneto is brilliant. So far, I've been really impressed with every role I've seen this actor play (which is only 3, but I think I'll start looking around for other movies he played major characters in and we'll see if he's really that good).

Where the hell did you find this? Im guessing youre in the US where it was re-released on DVD? i havn't seen it since the 80s! i'm in the UK and i've been after it for a while, waiting for a VHS copy to turn up in a secondhand shop. It's based on a book by the way, which was better!

Cerberus is from Belgium. A long time ago, I borrowed the VHS copy from an acquaintance but never bothered to return it. As it turned out, it was pretty much unwatchable so I got me the special internet edition instead. Books and movies are two separate things, by the way.

Really? Thanks for clearing that up.

As i remember it, the film didn't always make clear what was happening on screen, and why. The book fills in those gaps, if youre interested.

I of course meant that the two can not and should not be compared as they both rely on different ways to communicate things. Sometimes it's also better to leave things up to the viewer's imagination.

Well, no... If a film and book exist, inevitably there will be comparisons, just as we compare Metro2033 the game to the book here. What i think you mean is that we should approach them differently dependant on the director's intention - Some films do try to be a faithful vision of the original material, like 'Lord of the Rings' for example. Harry Potters, Draculas, Frankensteins and so on. Other films though, examine the original books to become visual works in thier own right, like 'The Shining' and 'Apocalypse Now'.

Inevitably there will be comparisons, indeed. But there shouldn't be. While your point of view is most certainly a valid one, and I share it to a certain extent, in a perfect world each work of art is judged on its own merits. That isn't to say that movies, video games & books can't complement each other, they can, but the medium in which their stories are delivered is so vastly different that I, personally, won't ever presume to draw comparisons between them. "Metro 2033 the book" and "Metro 2033 the game" are two very separate things for me. Let's agree to disagree.

It's the same for any film based on a book.

    Asylum

What started as a very interesting psychological thriller turns into a childish Scooby Doo-type of "Who done it?" film complete with characters having their cringeworthy moments of evil laughter. Very much enjoyed the stories and initial build-up but I'm extremely disappointed with the direction it took near the end. It ruined the whole film.

    Shutter island.

Very interesting watch, I can't explain the film but lets just say it has a lot of twists and turns, some you wouldn't expect but it fits the atmosphere of the film perfectly. I'd definitely give it at least a 8/10.

    Vacancy

Directed by Nimród Antal (Kontroll & Predators), Vacancy is quite entertaining and has some interesting camera work but the whole thing is ultimately very forgettable. And that Luke Wilson bloke is such a shite actor, much like his brother. I really can't think of a single flick in which he delivered a memorable performance.

    5/10

    ---

    Tomorrow Never Dies

I don't think I've seen this one before and even if I did, I wouldn't blame myself for having forgotten all about it. With such an uninteresting story, uninspired villains, dull action scenes, poorly written dialogues and one of the absolute worst opening songs in Bond film history with Sheryl Crow uncontrollably shouting the chorus as if there was no tomorrow, this truly is one of the worst Bond movies ever made.

    Retarded/10
