Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

Absolutely stunning anime film. Apart from cartoons like Pokémon and Dragon Ball Z from my childhood and Akira, I find it very hard to appreciate the anime and manga that my friends enjoy. On the other hand, pretty much everything I've watched from Studio Ghibli has been amazing. Nausicaä is no exception and I loved it. It's also interesting to see themes of feminism, environmentalism and pacifism recurring in Hayao Miyazaki's work - especially since I agree with a lot of it.

    The Thing (1982 version)

One of my favourite films. Even if it is super cheesey like all 80's films I love the effects/models or whatever they use when the thing infects someone, they are hilarious.

F*ckin' classic film that vanilla. The recent version is a prequel, and isn't as bad as you'd think it would be. i quite enjoyed it. They kept the CGI to a minimum and used mainly animatronic effects to get a film close in keeping to the john carpenter one, and the creature does look good! Its spoilt by having a tiresome female lead, but after watching it i am firmly convinced that every film should have have a big bearded norwegian guy with a flamethrower! :D

Have you seen the 1950s one that inspired them? "The Thing From Another World" ?

Ah sounds pretty good i'll give it a watch sometime and about the earlier one, I probably have because 50's films are always the only things on when I decide to watch TV and i'm pretty sure i've seen it but I might take a look at that again , may as well.

I was going to say something along these lines. Because I love the 80's The Thing so much, I too was extremely skeptical of the new one being naught more than a pile of shit. Happily surprised to see how well it tied in with the old one. In addition to this, it was neat to see the aliens in a new light (CGI as compared to models and makeup). Worth a watch.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who enjoys such films.

Indeed one of the best films out there.

It is shit, don't watch it; I guess exaggerated there a bit. The movie is very tolerable and I woud even watch it a second time, but it doesn't live up to the 1882 version. Honestly, the best part of the movie is at the very end; * SPOILER* it ends with the awsome intro song from "John Carpenter's The Thing" and then it shows a Norwegian guy yelling at another Norwegian guy to get the helicopter up and running to chase the dog as seen at the beginning of the 1982 movie. Yes, that was the best part of the movie.

There is a sequel out there, but its not a movie, its a game.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thing_%28video_game%29 Overall, I thought the game was good, not the best but not the worst, and it sums up the story of The Thing. I'll give it a 7.5 :D.
And your question about if anyone here has seen Django unchained, my answer is no, I have not seen it yet but I am planning on watching it on Blu-ray.

Gotcha on both. Just one complaint about the game is that the blood test never read positive, except on that one guy, even if the guy you tested would turn into a thing a few seconds later. Someone should make a patch for it; but I guess that also played as intensity since you never got to know who was a thing or not in advance just like you said.

The last movie I watched was The Outlaw Josey Wales.

"Are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?"-Josey

    Gotta love Clint.
