Indeed, that feeling sucks.

I recommend the type of Polish sweet spirits called nalewka; they are usually vodka-based and usually delicious, but often considerably stronger than most liqueurs so you might find them more to your taste if you like flavoured stuff that also packs a punch. :)

Fair enough, we're all quite geeky here. :p

*not allowed to consume alcohol, legally, until 21*

That computer mouse looks like it came from the movie set of TRON. It also appears to be swift. :nerd:

Unfortunately, Norway's Alcohol stores are slightly short of Polish spirits :p The only slavic ones I've seen, that are probably russian actually, are Koskenkorva and Kalinka.

Sucks to hear that... but I'm sure you've been drinking since 16 at least. :p

Sucks to hear that too. Off the top of my head, the only Polish vodka I can think of that can be bought in some stores here is Żubrówka (a lovely flavoured vodka, but not really a nalewka either - something in between I guess). Thankfully, there are two local Polish shops here that cropped up when we started invading... um, I mean, migrating to ths country. :p They get plenty of stuff imported, so that's where I get all my alcohol from (mostly beer and vodka). Unfortunately though, the UK has horrible prices on alcohol when compared to Poland.

I've had a couple of beers is all, nothing special. :p
I think anything prior to 16 was just casual sips, of several types of liquors, allowed by family members, at parties. The strongest type of alcohol, that I've had, was a tequila bottle from Mexico called Cabrito. I don't know how tequila stands up against vodka, though. I'm not into the sweet stuff either, such as wine or the almond-infused stuff.

I like some sweet alcohols like ciders or flavoured beer, but I also love pure vodka and strong beers. I enjoy some sweet spirits like nalewka, śliwowica, and some types of mead. Not a great fan of wine/port and that sort of stuff, but I drink them probably the most often due to others in the house enjoying these drinks and I have had the opportunity to experience some awesome ones thanks to them. I generally dislike whisky/whiskey, though there were a few I tried that were ok. Never tried tequila, though I'd love to some day (I also have to check out rakia and ouzo).

I've tasted one tequila I liked a lot, whilst another that looked very similar was just absolutely horrible. A friend of mine had me take a tequila shot, followed by licking up a tea-spoon of cinnamon and then taking a big juicy bite of an orange. I had already drunken some Whiskey, but damn that was tasteful!

I've had Smirnoff Vodka 40% twice. Both times resulted in me getting really hung-over the next day, adding some bad memories to my good vacations. I really love Whiskey though. Highland Park, Talisker Storm and especially Laphroaig (Benjamin's whiskey in the Last Light Roleplay threads), are three whiskeys I really like. I also enjoy beer a lot, and I love tasting different types of beers. Some evenings, I go to the store and buy two or three different beers all the time, to find out which types I like or not. Some have been absolutely delicious, whilst one I tasted was so horrible I could barely drink two sips and then I threw it away. Imperial Stout, that was.

I dislike Smirnoff, it's about as bland as pure vodka can be and it doesn't have anything to make it stand out (such as a stronger kick or unique aftertaste). I also hate how it is marketed as a Russian vodka; although the brand has Russian heritage, it is no longer even made in Russia and I'm sure that Russians don't like this poser vodka either - which is probably why Русский Стандарт and Зелёная Марка seem to be much more popular there.

Next time you drink pure vodka, you should eat a pickled cucumber after each shot. This is a very old Polish tradition associated with straight vodka (I think the Russians might have a similar custom, as our cultures influenced each other heavily for centuries) and it's actually really nice as the intensity of the spirit goes well with the salty flavour... though if you don't like pickles then I guess this could be problematic. :p

I don't really like the ones that've already been cut in slices. The've got a very squishy soft consistency and they're really sour. But the ones un-sliced and more mildly pickled, I can enjoy. That's an interesting idea, I think I'll try that out :)

In Poland, we have several types of pickles whilst in England there seems to be only one. We have ogórek kiszony (which is the only kind I could find in England that wasn't imported from Eastern Europe), the less pickled type of kiszony that's called ogórek małosolny and there's also ogórek konserwowy, which is preserved in a different way so it differs in taste and is tougher in consistency. I'm guessing you're speaking of one of the latter two, and they should still work great with vodka as I recently tried it with konserwowy. :)

Tequilla has been my favorite of the bunch so far (and that bunch is very small).

Then I guess I have had "vodka" - that is, if you can even call it that. I had no idea it was vodka until I just looked it up (after Skaara's initial mention of it). Well, the Smirnoff flavor that I had was a mint flavor kind. It tasted very much like mouth wash and I even asked the person who served it to me if they had just given me mouth wash . It wasn't very powerful, but I blame that on the mint-flavor that overpowered the alcoholic part of the drink. Though, since you said it's not a true vodka, and even I figured that due to the taste, I won't say that I have had vodka.

I've always wanted to try cheese, crackers, and sausage with vodka; after having read about the combination in a book, which is about Stalingrad, called War of the Rats. The Cheese, crackers, and sausage trio already go together pretty well; I can only imagine what wonders vodka would instill on it.

I've never had whisky, but I have had scotch. They're basically the same thing, right? :p

As for pickles: I have liked all the types of pickles that I've tried so far; though, I pretty sure american pickles taste quite different from those of eastern/western Europe. There are some pickles, which I sometimes see, for sale, at the checkout lanes in stores, that make me laugh when I see one. I've never bought one before because they always remind me of a giant turd floating in a plastic bag, but I do always pick one up just to play around with it while I wait in line (pickle in a bag isn't the common kind of pickles that most people consume over here BTW :p).

Well, the original pure version of Smirnoff is a vodka, it's just not a very good one in my opinion and it's certainly not as authentic as marketed. Then there are also all the silly things like that one variant with golden flakes of some kind swimming in it. As for whisky, I'm definitely no expert on it, but I think scotch is just a type of whisky with roots in Scotland.

And goddamn it, that is going to put me off eating pickles for a while! Thankfully, most of the pickles you can get here imported from Poland come in jars. In the old country, they are also sold straight from the barrels in some supermarkets.

I've seen those pickles around here. They're not bad, though the spicy ones are a bit weird.

Yeah, I remember seeing a few of them here too, though I think they're a different brand.

And on the alcohol thing; just turned 21 a month ago, and I've already found that a lot of the interesting pre-mixed drinks (i.e. something like Rumchata) tend to not be very price effective. You're often times better off buying something like a Jager and finding a cheap mixer if you're looking for something interesting to drink that isn't just straight-up hard liquor.

I haven't gotten it yet, but on Friday which is salary day, I might just buy this: http://www.flightsim.no/shop/index.php?cPath=51
It's like a little webcam you place in front of you at face-height, and then you put this little rod with three red lights onto your headset (or a cap), and when you move your head in any direction IRL, your view moves in the game. It's not supported for all games of course, but I know of at least one game where it is supported: Arma3 :D

Just skip to 0:40

EDIT: Just bought Dying Light! Whoohoo! :D It seems to have a lot of positive feedback in Steam. There are many reviews on the first page. Most of them are positive, and the few that aren't positive are ranting because it doesn't work together with AMD. Luckily I got rid of my AMD card half a year ago and I've got the minimum required Nvidia GeForce 560 card for the game. The requirements say that the minimum is 3.3 GHz whilst my processor only have 2.8, but I'm counting on the possibility that it'll work.

That's a solid four-core, but it looks to be about on par with modern AMD four-cores based off of what benchmarks I could find. Sounds like it's served for a good four years.
