It's possible to play without internet in offline mode. Atleast, when it works.

What kind of silly argument is that? Online activation is still required. DRM-free games are guaranteed to work forever and whenever I see fit. Steam games are not.

Two good things about Steam: the progress tracking in your games (achievements and hours, etc.) and the community along with its features. I guess you could also say that not having to put in the disc is a plus, but that's part of the DRM so it works both ways. :(

Yeah, Steam is a form of DRM and the worst part is that it has so many people convinced that it's a positive thing. The same people who would scream at EA putting DRM in their games. Don't get me wrong - if I wanted any "corporation" to limit my rights to the products I buy, I'd want it to be Valve. However, I don't want any corporations to restrict me from doing whatever I wanna do with the things I bought using my money. So yeah, in an ideal situation, Steam would have to go (or stay as an online platform for gamers to connect but remove all of its horrible DRM and restrictions).

Look on the bright side though, at least Steam still isn't using the same stuff as Blizzard and Ubisoft. You only need an internet connection to launch the game, so there is no risk of losing progress. And then there's offline mode... actually, that doesn't count, because it never works.

I thought that DRM only meant that you need internet to play, but I was wrong. Ignore my silly argument.

DRM just means you can't really pass the game around on computers unless you have a special account. The easiest form of it is making you go online. Take Diablo 3 for example. You don't have to play multiplayer but you do have to have internet connection which is stupid since if you have bad internet you can't really play the game.
