I never find a point in going to the nether, I prefer the over world and see the nether as a waste of time. The challenge in the nether isn't really there, all there is is annoying mobs and lava pits everywhere. The only reason I ever go to the nether is to get some glowstone for my builds in the over world.

The Nether is the only way to acquire Glowstone, one of the brightest light sources available along with the Jack O' Lantern, and an ingredient in the creation of the only redstone-toggleable light source. It is also the only way to acquire various brewing ingredients, to wit, Netherwart, Ghast Tears, and Blaze Rods. Netharrack, the material the Nether is built out of, will burn indefinitely, unlike wood. Zombie Pigmen, found only in the Nether, are an unlimited source of Gold Nuggets, which can be combined into Gold Ingots. It is also a near-unlimited source of lava.

There are a lot of creepy mobs in the nether, although if it is a player vs. player server it's safer.

Yeah, I pretty much never go to the nether. Even in my survival world I've had for over a year, I don't have an nethewart farm and I really don't bother at all with potions (the entire section for that stuff is a small corner of the house in an area I don't really use).

I usually go and set up subway systems in order to get to the other side of the map.

Glowstone is a very important block for building mass projects or for your base, I mostly always go to the nether just to mine some Glowstone.

I hate going to the nether. I always die, and it has nothing to offer me that I would be willing to risk my inventory for.

That's how I feel about it too, it's pointless.

The Nether is a fantastic location for a base since nobody's going to come looking for you. You'll have to dig underground and get away from all the hostile mobs as quickly as possible. Otherwise, you're definitely going to die quite often.

Yeah that's definitely a cool idea, I would just hate lugging all my valuables in there to even build the base and just lose everything.

Well when I can, I always set up a base in the Nether. I mean the Nether is the only place where you can find Nether Warts which play a big part in making healing potions. Plus I go there for the glowstones.

I go there quite a bit, since I play with tons of mods that make the Nether MUCH more useful and helpful. I have a secondary base there that is bigger than my overworld base, so it's a pretty significant area for me. I can imagine if you don't have a modded client it can be a bit harder to find a good reason to go to the Nether other than for Quartz if you're a redstone geek or potion materials occasionally, and to fight the Wither. Anyways, the Nether is as important to me as the main world, and lots of my mods depend on it.

I have been on Nether and I tried to live there but I failed. I'm getting killed all the time there, and I lost my interest. And I never went to Nether ever again.

I hate the Nether because I do a lot while trying to mine quartz ores.
I once have collected like 5 stacks of Nether quartz and then I accidently fell into lava. Now every time I go to Nether, I always bring fire resistance potions, so I can save myself from lava!

I agree with most people here - I rarely go, unless it's to try to get some glowstone. The risks aren't worth the rewards.... and frankly, it's just a scary place to be.
