What does it take to get into this game?

I like this game because there is too much freedom! You can do whatever you want!
You can play both Survival and Creative mode. If you want to survive in nature, then you can play survival, if you want to express your creativity, then you can play the Creative mode!
There is also Hardcore mode, which is basically survival mode, just with one life, so you die, and that's it, you have to delete your world.

I know that I personally watched a ton of gameplay videos before I ever started playing. It gave me a good idea of the mechanics and how to play, and it also showed me which mods I might want to download. It's a fun game, but definitely not something that everyone can enjoy.

Most games that allow you to collect stuff is a game I am interested in. I like being able to collect stuff that does not actually clutter my house up. Out of game I am not a hoarder, in game I am.

I say just go for it. It will certainly not be a mistake. Minecraft will provide hours and hours of entertainment. And when you get bored, just pop in a mod. It's really a never ending supply of joy!

And if you get bored of mods just pop into a server and play a few Minecraft Hunger Games, that stuff is highly addictive

Yeah, I saw some Let's Plays about this and it looked really epic. I might just start also playing one the Hunger Games servers.

Well. I got into Minecraft because I loved the idea of getting resources to become stronger. You can get strong to a point where not even a horde of zombies or creepers can stop you. Just the idea of thinking it really pumped my blood. Minecraft has a lot of gamemodes and modifications if you ever get into the game! It's worth buying whenever a sale happens.

I got into Minecraft because of my friends. You could try the game yourself, and decide if you like it or not. You can play a demo and the download is extremely small. Doesn't hurt to try it out.

It is different for different people, some people enjoy the online aspect of the game others enjoy playing by themselves and have more of a solo challenge. For me, I had to realize how diverse the game actually was with all the different crafting options there were. Once you find what the game has for you, it will then catch you attention and you will be hooked!

It depends on the person, but I'd suggest starting out with a few friends who know what they're doing. If you're a builder or like the thrill of having to build a house before night falls and just survive you'll probably like this game. If that isn't for you then you probably won't care for this game unless you have fun messing around with friends.

Eight hours of a download? If that were the case I never would have downloaded it. More like a few minutes to download, though in your case you are gonna have to download all the updates so it may take awhile, but not eight hours I can assure you of that. And once you play the demo you are gonna wanna buy it.

I think the main appeal of Minecraft is that you can play it in so many different ways, if it didn't capture your interest at first, maybe try a different game mode to see if you like it more.
Playing with friends is also a lot of help.

I learned how to play Minecraft by myself, I didn't watch any tutorials or let's plays, I just looked on Minecraft Wiki how to craft materials and items. Now they have made a demo, which can learn you the basic things and how to play. You can play the demo at minecraft.net, just click at "play the demo" under "Get the game". Good luck.

All you need is some time and a computer that has extra 50MB of space. If you're planning on going through this game with no introduction you'll be lost I suggest you go take a look at manuals or walk-troughs first because if you don't you'll be lost in the world punching trees for 3 hours.

The game in itself is very small for nowadays standards (50mb) the only problem you would have, that I also had on my old pc is that it is a bit taxing to an older processor to process the land rendering but aside from that, graphically it is java powered so it is VERY resource friendly. For a more modern pc you wouldn't have any problem at all running it.

Aside from that, as the others have mentioned watch videos of playthroughs and let's plays on youtube with and without mods to form an opinion on if and what you like about it.

Yeah try the demo first. It's the best advice anyone can give for someone new to Minecraft. Also you might want to get a craft recipe guide because without it it's hard to get started in Mincraft.

Not much. Personally I would say that you need a good group of friends to play with if you want it to be really fun. However, even alone this game is very good for the mind, as there is so much to do and create.
