... What if it sucks?

I would be ticked. I think we can all agree that its not going to like Metro 2033. The HUD's different. I don't know if dumbed down is the right phrase. When I read reviews of Metro 2033, it was described as hardcore. And as such, Metro 2033 filled a niche. It's a nice niche, that we are part of, but it limits the games appeal. They gotta give it some elements that appeal to outside the core community. Even if it seems "easier" or "dumbed down" to us, it gives newbies a chance to get into it.

Darn, I hope its not like Far Cry 3, where I stick up for the game. Everyone on the Ubisoft forum was complaining about all the glitches and problems with multiplayer, and I was all like "Oh, it'll be fine. These things take time! Be patient." Most glitches were fixed, but still not that good a situation.

    I'm not sure about that..
Hud will be turn off able even on easy. I'm hoping ranger hardcore will have slower gun play and reloading along with a more realistic stalth system.

It'd be another bad game in a generation full of them.

That's a bit of a bleak outlook. Yes, there are plenty of rubbish games, but there's equally many good, and great ones. Hell, even some of the bad games can be enjoyable, if played with friends, or just to screw around.

This gen has ruined gaming in many ways though. Look at drm and ea. Ubiosft and dlc. cod and destroying franchises. its a sad world.....

To be honest - if you compare modern games to what we had in the 1990s and early 2000s (what I would call 'The Golden Age of PC Gaming') - most new games do seem quite crap. Nowadays we get many games that are very easy, linear, unoriginal, uninteresting and sometimes even boring. Graphics are becoming more and more amazing, but with such grand tools many AAA developers forget about other core aspects of gaming, such as gameplay or story. These modern games aren't necessarily bad, but they often seem to be of a much lower calibre. All of this and I haven't even mentioned the DRM, the shady business practices, the oppressive publishers, the less personally crafted products and the list goes on, and on, and on...

On the other hand, games have started to attract more women and thus the gaming scene has become slightly less sexist. With an increasing number of games that begin to represent females as human beings too and more & more people who are willing to critique the bad aspects of our beloved hobby, we are headed in the right way. This is the same with more and more homosexual relationships being shown in games. Furthermore, in the past few years the indie scene has grown and evolved in ways that used to be hard to imagine. Some indie titles are even being considered art! Even a few triple A games start to break the boundaries of what a game is traditionally like. Then we also have wonders like CD Projekt RED, who seem to understand gamers better than any other company in the world.

So, obviously, there are two sides to this argument - both with (in my opinion) equally valid points. I guess, in the end, it all depends on your point of view. Personally, I think the situation is too complicated to be answered with a simple yes or no.

It's bleak, but it's unfortunately true. Even acclaimed games that are supposedly "deep" experiences are crap, and can't hold a candle to the great PC games of the 90s.

This is what we thought for Battlefield 3 but instead of fixing glitches they ruined the game instead.

If they manage to ruin Metro because it's "too hard" for some people then I will actually shit in my own hands and clap to the sound of 4A studios being destroyed in the flames of nuclear fire.

It's not that bad man. Games like metro 2033 and dark souls still happen. though i AGREE that pretty much every game in the 90's was amazing but now there chery picked examples.

My view is that you shouldn't live in "what if's" but more like without expectations, then you won't get disappointed if something were to be or not to be. Nice philosophy huh?

I can recommend to try out some of the Indie games on steam.
Primordia is one example. Kinda like Neverhood if you ever played that game.

Just speaking personally, I think it's a better game than Metro 2033. I mean, there are no amoebas in Last Light :D

As for the hit markers, you're right: they are important for feedback for a range of players. As a veteran Metro fan you might find them annoying in these videos. You kind of stop noticing them too much when you're playing it yourself, because you're always looking for the next place to go or shoot after lining up a headshot.

For the mutants they can come in handy, because you'll know if you are just shooting away ammo at their armored bits or if you are actually dealing damage where it hurts. If you start on Ranger Mode, you'll just have to kind of make educated guesses about that without the hitmarkers.
