What is happening with Russia and Ukraine now?

    U mad?

I don't really hold a grudge against the americans that are able to understand how the world runs (you seem one of them). I do however despise your overly-patriotic culture and your lifestyle. That said, as Komodo pointed out, there are different groups of people, whose interests are opposed, who expect one thing or another from the USA.

But the important thing is that one don't start an all out war over something as petty as a culture or a lifestyle, as long as people refrain from provoking each other, and as long as the different lifestyles don't interrupt each other. That's pretty much what Hitler did.
I've gotten to know a lot of different personalities on the internet, but if there is one thing that they all have in common, it is exactly that; they can't refrain from interfering with each other and getting offended by the other persons' differences. A thought I've come to, is that if these people I've met on the internet, were to be the people in charge around the world, the world would end up..... just the way it is right now.

    (Pushes glasses up nose)

I think we need to accept that this all started because the ukrainians would not accept glory loving russians

Most of it (especially anything with 'Murica or something similar) is 100% a joke. In reality, we're not really much of a step up from almost any other European country in terms of national pride. It's there, but our nationalism doesn't exactly transcend our morals and whatnot. Even the 4th of July isn't much more these days than an excuse to grill out and blow some stuff up.

  5. Yeah, it doesn't look like that from over here.

Since your country was literally built by the people, patriotism in USA seems to be a giant part of the culture. Nobody forces you to hang national flags everywhere and enormous independence day celebrations and parades are all sponsored by locals. Then there is the pledge of allegiance and the star-spangled banner.

Most other countries don't even bother to stand up during a national anthem.

Out of of topic interest, what is the general opinion of australians from your respective countrys?

  7. Tony Abbott is a giant fuckwaffle, but the Australians I know are generally nice people. I know a guy who catches snakes and lizards for a living.

And then there is this fellow:

As in it doesn't look as serious, or doesn't look like a joke?

And the whole pledge of allegiance thing is kinda odd. Most of us are taught that we need to stand up and go through the whole thing when we're really young, and while it always gets sent through the loudspeaker every morning til the end of High School, it's more of an optional formality at that point to actually stand up and go through with it. Maybe one or two stubborn teachers will make you do it, but for the most part we're not that into it by that point.

Same with the Star Spangled Banner; most of us go through the motions just because it's the popular thing to do, but unless you're someone who escaped North Korea and started your own life over here (or something along those lines), nobody's exactly shedding any tears over it.

For the most part, they're just formalities; old traditions that we keep alive because we don't really care enough to get rid of. Maybe you'll find hardcore believers in the Bible Belt or something, but the rest of the nation kinda likes to pretend they don't exist for the most part.

As for you Aussies, all we ever hear is that Tony Abbot is a jackass, and that you guys have a bunch of native wildlife. I guess there's a stereotype that you guys are handy in the outdoors, and we have our ridiculous Aussie-themed Outback Steakhouse restaurants. Nothing really negative, other than that most of us wouldn't want to visit due to horror stories of giant spiders and shit.

  9. As in USA is the most patriotic country I can think of.

    I mean come on.

Alright touché. But still, a good amount of it is a joke, especially among our younger generation.

@Murica: Well, America is always the bad guy and they can't do it right. A good example is ISIS and Iraq atm, if they go in they are the evil invaders/world police and if they stay out they aren't good either.

Yeah, maybe they invaded Iraq but russia did the same with other small countries like Tajikistan etc. yet no one cares and only the evil murica is playing world police...

Russia did the same thing, so they shouldn't name&shame others.

I'm assuming it's directed to me.
Actually, it does not seem that way in Europe. I don't mean to sound offensive, but from what i hear and see, it looks like the USA are the modern version of a Crusader Kingdom.
They seem to be fairly alright. Weird accent, very sporty. And according to Airport Security, brining a rotten potato in Australia leads to billions of dollars of damages, Plague, being forsaken by X number of divinities, and eventually the end of human civilization.
You are forgetting the over 50 countries which were invaded/had their politics and internal stability manipulated by the US since the end of WW2.

And i can't find any information about the invasion of Tajikistan ("etc.") by Russia....perhaps you meant....the USSR?

Not that the stereotypes aren't at least loosely based off of some kind of truth, but I don't think any country is really properly portrayed well across the globe. I wouldn't dream of pretending to have an understanding of Italy without having spent some time there myself (I believe that's where you're from, correct?).

Actually directed at everyone in general, but yes, it was a neutralizing response to your slightly disrespectful choice of words. But no harm done ;)

That picture made me sink my head between my shoulders and look at the metal-frame-bunk-bed behind my back.

I can tell you, Italy is shit. For real.

And again, it was the USSR that invaded Afghanistan.

Oh, so you were part of it? Or are you just instinctively being patriotic?
Sorry, I couldn't help it
