This Russian/Ukraine conflict ties in with a Battlefield 2 mod...well, sorta. I was checking out mods for Battlefield 2 and there is this one called Point of Existence 2. Here's a quick sentence that basically sums up the mod pretty well:

"Ukraine, a former satellite state of the Soviet Union, sought to gain back the power from which it once reveled in."

The mod was made back in 2006, so it's kinda interesting how this is a bit similar.
