What is happening with Russia and Ukraine now?

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by Derrame, Feb 28, 2014.

1. Poroshenko's plan to "return Crimea" is to show to the people that life in Ukraine is much better than life in Russia. This will make Crimean people come back on their own:

1. I guess that's why there is a transport blockade in place, water and electricity is being cut and the bridges to the peninsula are being mined.
2. How can Crimeans come back if they were invaded? Was it an occupation or the will of the people? Make up your mind, Petro.

I think Petro is a pretty cool guy, he kills moskale a doesn't afraid of anything.

3. Royal United Services Institute released a document (.pdf) on RF involvement in Ukraine. Its author is Igor Sutyagin. Oddly enough it generally mirrors UA media reports, saying that Russia will run out of money and people to send to die in Ukraine anytime soon. The author cites his earlier papers as sources as well as NATO reports and interviews with US Army’s Commander in Europe Ben Hodges even though they were using UA government as source themselves. And now Ukrainian media cites this report as source too, effectively making this a circlejerk.

4. Petro Poroshenko told Stefan Löfven, the Prime Minister of Sweden, that the terrorists are using UA soldiers that were taken prisoners in brutal and degrading jobs, such are restoring bombed out buildings, recovering UA soldiers' corpses from the airport ruins and cleaning streets from debris, which does not comply with humanitarian principles.

5. A former United States Army general and currently a military analyst Robert Scales says that US should start killing as many Russians as possible to sway the public opinion:

"Украинцы уже год как убивают российских оккупантов и не нуждаются в таких советах" - YouTube comments never fail to deliver their fair share of stupidity.

7. UA soldiers filming the bombing of Shirokino and laughing it up - "One less house!":

Shirokino is to the east of UA positions, the sun rises in the east, they call the opponents "separs", so it can't be the DPR, unless they somehow sneaked up behind UA forces and are shooting at the town to frame the UA army.

8. A chairman of STRATFOR, George Friedman, talks about Europe/Ukraine/Russia. A rather informative rundown of the US position from a strategic intelligence agency. Russia + Germany are the only thing that can threaten the US, so they can't be allowed to be partners, therefore civil war in Ukraine as a way to destabilize both:

Kill all the russians?Really fucking idiots....violence breeds violence war breeds war you reap what you fucking sow

10. People are protesting in Kiev against European prices without European salaries and demanding the resignation of the mayor:

11. Anton Gerashchenko reports on his facebook, that his proposed law will allow to put all organizers of "paid" and "fake" anti-government demonstrations in prison for 3 to 5 years. The Ukrainian government gets to decide which demonstrations are fake, of course.

"Like in a proper civilized European country!"

Lets see if it passes.

I know right, all that trouble just to make the country more like Russia. :p

EDIT:

Curious how this video got taken down.

Very interesting stuff. It's people like him who start much of this shit up around the world, but when they speak honestly about it then you can really get a great insight into why and how many of the contemporary conflicts are started.

13. Janusz Korwin-Mikke, a polish politician and a member of the European parliament talks on a UA TV how the Ukraine was used by the USA as a tool to fight Russia. Wow, that old jew Shuster (The show host) really changes his propaganda vector around lately, seeing something like that would be unthinkable a few months back:

This man is one of the most vile, repulsive and completely fucked in the head asshats to ever be reared by the Polish motherland. If you're familiar with his proposed policies, then you will know that the only people he can appeal to are white, far-right, homophobic, racist, sexist, physically able male advocates of full-on free market capitalism who sympathise with fascists and have no compassion for other human beings (especially those who stray from the norm... or rather what would be the norm in a Polish version of the Third Reich, I guess). I'm tempted to say that he is right up there with Roman Dmowski in terms of the violent potential of his hateful views, though his ideology was not the same. Thankfully, most of Korwin-Mikke's supporters seem to be gymnasium pupils (aged 13-16) who like him for his "witty" and vulgar public comments as opposed to the careful lies of most politicians, but recently he has gained a bit more popularity among voters too - as you can see that fucker is in the EU parliament since the last elections, even though he wants the EU to collapse... but of course a large part of his career revolves around it, so it would be probably be a personal tragedy for him really.

15. Just because someone is a cunt it doesn't automatically make everything they say wrong though. So there, his opinion on the matter, from UA TV, for what it's worth.

---

Meanwhile, UA soldiers on an APC ran over an eight year old girl and a woman with her child in a baby carriage in Konstantinovka and ran away.

People started a demonstration that transformed into a riot, blocked the road in front of the UA barracks, started throwing stones at windows and demanding to give them those responsible for this. The ministry of defense released a statement that they will deal with the incident internally, after which it got worse:

The soldiers were given an order to shoot on the protestors if they start shit because of the accident by Anton Geraschenko, mentioned several times earlier in this thread. People started shit because of the accident, several were injured and killed, after which the rioters have burned the UA barracks and vehicles down:

There are reports of tanks being sent in to deal with the protestors. Twitter and Facebook are peppered with Ukrainian activists blaming Russia for staging an accident to frame the UA army.

16. This is not the first time the UA soldiers get into deadly crashes on military vehicles. Just from this month:

Obviously, but one also always needs context so that you don't end up like some uneducated person from a distant country who thinks Hitler was a pretty nice guy (which is the case with a minority of people in some East Asian countries, for example).

What can I say... This is a tragedy and people are taking justice into their own hands, but in their situation I'd probably do the same. Another casualty of this needless war, followed by even more instability. Ukraine is getting ever closer to becoming a complete police state. As for those who keep blaming it all on Russians, don't let it get to you. They are paranoid, brainwashed and completely irrational. I live with someone like that - their view of pretty much everything bad that has ever happened in Ukraine is that it is the result of some Russian conspiracy, even if indirectly. Can't reason with those arguments because they are too fervent.

18. A selection of social media comments on the events in Konstantinovka:

Someone is mad a child was murdered? They are clearly Putin's agents and Russian shills :derp:

I've got pages of this, I could go on.

I never thought this thread would be so popular, and informative

20. UA channel 112 reports that there are new demonstrations in Konstantinovka, people are demanding the army to get away from the city:
