What is happening with Russia and Ukraine now?

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by Derrame, Feb 28, 2014.

  1. Ukrainian media reports that illegal weapon trafficking in Kiev has increased dozens of times in comparison with last year as well as the amount of accidents with such weapons.

Same news channel reported a shooting, a grenade explosion and a gun trafficker arrest just a few days prior.

    Aye, it has.

  3. On the 17th of March this year Poroshenko said he is going to "thaw" Transdnistria conflict during a meeting with the Romanian president. Today Ukraine blamed the shooting at the Transdnistria border on the republic. They say its government tries to frame the Ukraine. Republic ministry of defense says Ukrainian border guard shot a citizen when they tried crossing the border illegaly.

Ukraine views Transdnistria in its current form as a threat, and assumes it can be used as a base for potential attack on Odessa. Expect more of this shit on the news in the following months. Worst case scenario RF armed forces will be blamed for the hostilities and instigation by the Ukraine (Or blamed for invasion despite being stationed there for the past 20 years, if Crimea is any indication) and the republic will be attacked by Ukrainian and Moldovan armed forces with Romanian volunteers, while Europe will sit idly by and nod, while providing 24/7 media coverage demonizing one side and whitewashing the other.

    Best case scenario? Nothing happens.

  4. Someone hanged a dummy made to look like Poroshenko in Odessa tonight, next to the José de Ribas, a founder of Odessa, stature:

  6. DPR and LPR started this year's sowing, using seeds and fertilizer provided by RF via humanitarian aid convoys:

Unfortunately most of the usable lands are dotted with "gifts" from the UA armed forces (Mines, shells and rockets that didn't go off), so DPR/LPR combat engineers are hard at work disarming them:

They sure suck at being terrorists.

  7. Zakharchenko issued an order for all rebels that do not belong to the republic armed forces to surrender their weapons until the 4th of April, 2015. Everyone failing to comply will be considered a bandit and will be dealt with according to the penal code of the republics (Liquidation).

He also issued an order to start paying pensions to all eligible citizens of the republic in Russian rubles, using a fixed exchange rate of 1:2, regardless of the actual exchange rates of ruble and hryvnia.

  8. Ukrainian media also reports that filthy terrorists started repairing railroads for some reason, most likely to allow Russia to invade with more tanks.

  9. Ukraine raises gas prices for civilian market by 280% starting 1st of April, 2015. Same with water, the price is up 55%.

Western Ukraine keeps raising the tariffs for the civilians in hopes of matching the conditions for loans and getting more money from the IMF for the war effort. Looks like they don't even want peace:

  10. An article on Forbes detailing polls taken in Crimea. Checking out the comments is worthwhile.

A protest in front of the USA embassy in Kiev:

  11. One of the largest French newspapers Le Monde published an article, saying the administration of the Élysée Palace, the seat of French government, is concerned that Kiev fails to conform to Minsk II peace agreement, destabilizing the situation.

Took them a while to even notice.

  12. A French analyst Christine Dugoin-Clément says in an interview that the Ukrainian army is incapable of dealing with the situation in the country and has no required training.

  13. Ukraine admits they fight against their own people, which goes against their previous claims of destroying thousands of Russian soldiers from "Altai horse police" or "Buryat bicycle division" in order to free the civilian population.

Vyacheslav Abroskin, a de facto head of Donetsk province police forces, put in place by the Kiev government last year despite having no control over Donetsk and Luhansk, posted a list of identified "Russian terrorists" from the "Sparta", one of the most well known rebel batallions, as well as their dates of birth and places of origin on his facebook.

Surprisingly enough none of them are Russian citizens. All of men and women on the list come from Donetsk, Odessa, Kharkiv and surrounding towns and villages:

  14. People are protesting in front of the Ukrainian Parliament and demand the resignation of the prime minister as well as the investigation into government corruption:

I love how the Ukrainian media films the very edge of the crowd to misreport the protest size. Reportedly the army and police are arriving to deal with the protesters if things go bad.

  15. Rebels have sent POWs back to Ukraine as a gesture of good will, despite the fact that Ukraine refused to cooperate and trade them for months. With the amount of reporters with cameras present you'd thing this would be a little more televised in the western media, but I suppose it's considered to be a bad thing when DPR and LPR are presented in a positive light:

  16. More video footage from the protest. Ministers in Rada have joined the protest as well.

Svoboda party nationalist chants, police in riot gear, loudspeakers, "Yatseniuk is a traitor" posters. Svoboda was aligned with the prime minister last year, but Arseniy is in trouble now. He is being accused of stealing a ton of money and I assume this happens now because he didn't want to share:

  17. The church of Ukraine that was earlier advocating murder and saying that killing russians in Donbass is not a sin, now calls punisher batallions "saints", complete with halos and everything. They painted them on the walls of a church in Lwyw.

They also painted Russian orthodox church patriarch Kirill, Putin, Donbass rebel and a Vatnik (Derogatory term for a russian person) there as well, waiting for the god's judgement. Way to go, Filaret, very subtle.

  18. Paranoid Ukrainian political figures keep calling each other Putin's agents. This time it's Geraschenko calling Timoshenko a paid Russian shill due to recent Svoboda party actions. Internal tensions are high and speres of influence are getting remade hard. Someone has to go soon.

  20. Right sector goons are lustrating another minister, this time it's a minister of justice. Someone does something we don't like (Allow an opposition party to exist)? Demand him to resign. He doesn't want to resign? Lets torture him until he does:
