What is happening with Russia and Ukraine now?

  1. UA shelled RF checkpoint earlier.

  2. Ukraine army is leveling the cities now. Poroshenko wants to win the hearts of ethic Ukrainians by murdering them.

The media is on his side again and willing to just not report on the atrocities happening there.

Obviously everyone on the footage is a terrorist, so it's okay [/sarcasm] No coverage in the west again.

I was actually thinking of making a joke about that, but I decided it was too insensitive.

I don't know, though I'm guessing most people go by what international human rights organizations deem as war crimes. That said, I have no idea what they think constitutes a war crime, but what's been happening in Ukraine is in my opinion certainly enough to consider various actions of the Ukrainian military as such. Obviously, it's nowhere near as much or as bad as what is happening in parts of the Middle East practically every day, but people are having their homes destroyed, are getting wounded or worst of all killed by their own country's military.

  8. Just send a PM.

There is footage literally everywhere of Kiev bombing civilians with CAS jets yet they still deny it. I mean look at this:

  9. So now that there is something other than UA bombing the shit out of cities, there is an overwhelming amount of coverage in the west. The Rebels have retreated from Slavyansk to Kramatorsk, then from Kramatorsk to Donetsk.

Strelkov figured out they can't hold Slavyansk with fifteen hundred men stationed there against thousands of National Guards with tanks. Reportedly he took everyone willing to leave with their families and departed, using several vehicles to stage a distraction. So much for encirclement.

  10. UA army cuts off supplies first, then shells the fuck out of the city indiscriminately, then does the photo-ops.

Why is there a captured Nazi's uniform in this picture? Are there Nazi's invloved in this too or is it supose to have a sembolic meaning, saying that Russians are the new Nazis?

  12. No, they say they captured it from the rebels along with launchers. It's obligatory to wear full SS uniform when using these when one is a rebel apparently.

I'm going to repeat myself, but anyway: I don't support either side in this conflict and it's obvious that there are plenty of fascists among the new recruits of the Ukrainian army, but the separatists and Russian sympathizers are not all nice people either. I remember that as soon as Russia got involved in Crimea, graffiti telling the Tatars to get the fuck out (more or less) started popping up on walls there - along with swastikas next to them. Both sides have their share of wankers, so I wouldn't be surprised if this Nazi imitation uniform was actually discovered there.

  14. Media blew it out of proportion. It has always been like that, racism did not just show up out of nowhere the moment Crimea became a part of RF. It all goes back 800 years, when these assholes showed up. Then there was this thing. There is a saying here that goes "Unbidden guest is worse than a Tatar". I am a tatar myself, I was treated like shit by Russians because of what I am on more than one occasion.

Either way let's look at the numbers:

Civilian deaths in Crimea takeover: 0
Civilian deaths in reclamation of South-East: 400 and rising

Good or bad, Crimea annexation took it out of the bloodbath.

Hold on, I get what you're saying about historical rivalries and all but that's a bit of an exaggeration. The fact is that Eastern Europe is filled with racist attitudes, and Russia is known as one of the worst places in the region when it comes to how people see and treat foreigners. Crimea is not the only place in Russia (it is Russian territory now) where you will find swastikas and other types of racist graffiti. Also, this type of attitude is not exclusively aimed at Tatars. I'm not saying that all Russians or Eastern Europeans in general are racist or come from the only racist place (it would be silly to say that about myself anyway), but Russia and Eastern Europe are some of the most racist places in Europe.

As for what you're saying about the takeover of Crimea actually having a positive outcome, I see what you mean and it does seem like that would be the case (except for a few "incidents" with Ukrainian soldiers during the whole thing, no one was killed or hurt). However, we can't really predict what would have happened. After all, didn't everything escalate after Russia stepped into Crimea? Didn't the Ukrainian government become even more Russophobic and aggressive at that point, leading to the strengthening of separatist attitudes and more muscle-flexing between Ukraine and Russia? But you never know, it's impossible to say what would have happened otherwise with complete certainty.

One thing I can definitely agree with is that the media did blow it out of proportion.

  16. Not really, there was no smooth transition, the previous government was never openly Russophobic and the groups that came to power after a coup were such to begin with. That's the entire point why they were brought to power. Crimean government said they will leave UA if the nationalists deposed Yanukovich and they did exactly that. They wanted protection from a now insane neighbour and they got it by joining the RF. LPR and DPR tried to follow the same path, but the new government replied to protests with the army. Something Yanukovich pussied out of doing last November.

Fair enough, you have a point there so it's very reasonable to say that the spread of Russian influence avoided bloodshed there. Ignorance on my part. Btw, I've gotta ask out of curiosity: can you speak the Tartar language or any of its distinct dialects?

  18. My grand-grand-parents on the mother's line spoke fluently, but they never bothered to teach their children much after moving to Kotlin almost a century ago. I know a couple prayers and childhood rhymes, but that's about it.

I believe his Steam profile said St. Petersburg, which is probably part of why he's since made it private.
