What is happening with Russia and Ukraine now?

I've always thought of Kronshtadt as a very interesting place, mostly due to where it's located and who used to live there - the most radical and, after the Bolshevik purges, some of the only true active communists of early 20th century Russia.

That's stupid. Not only does it put a bad image on them, but it also, somewhat, symbolically recreates the hard-fought battle between Nazi Germany and the former Soviet Union –which the Nazis lost.

  4. I currently reside in Saint-Petersburg, but I lived on Kotlin for 16 years. I was born in a maternity hospital in Leningrad and that puts me in a unique position. With any luck by the end of this century I can potentially become the last person alive born in the previous millenium in a city and country that no longer exist.

It's private because I was annoyed by trade and friend requests. I also don't like people seeing when and what I'm playing, especially since steam keeps tabs on my gaming statistics regardless of whether I want it or not. It's either private, or full transparency.

    Fun times.

True, but the entire photo-op is staged. Hand feeding grannies, smiling children, giving out food after shelling the city for several months indiscriminately and turning it into ruins? After proving time and again that they are skewing facts intentionally? I call bullshit on that. That puts the uniform under question as well.

Was it taken from the WW2 reenactment? Was it taken from the museum? Did they bring it themselves? Or was it indeed taken from a die-hard SS cosplayer? Why the hell would a Ukrainian nazi be on the "Russian side"? Was it an undercover Russian Spetsnaz operative terrorist pretending to be Ukrainian that carried an SS officer uniform on him who also killed himself like those peeps in Odessa and/or ran away conveniently leaving all evidence behind? This just doesn't add up.

    Look at this guy:

He has gathered quite a few of German WW2 weapons and displays them with a Third Reich flag. Yet everyone assumes that a military history collector is a nazi.

I bet they will put another spin on this. In a couple days they'll just outright say "dem nazis put civvies in front of a firing squad, and they kick dogs and they also eat children", I bet a dollar on this.

    Best of luck! :p

Exactly. The Kronshadt sailors were some of the most radical elements of the Revolutions of 1917 (even before that as well). It turned out that they were a bit too communist for the supposedly communist leader.

Not to be mean toward grannies, but picturing that in my head just made me laugh. :p

And an die-hard SS cosplayer? Hahahaha. It's too much.

I got mixed up for some reason while reading the post you had made, "UA army cuts off supplies first, then shells the fuck out of the city indiscriminately, then does the photo-ops," with a previous one and thought that it was the Russian Army that captured anti-Russian rebels wearing SS uniforms -it at least would have made some sense that way.
It was completely my fault for not understanding; not because of the way you delivered the information. I understand it now and thank you unintentionally pointing out my mistake. :)

  9. http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/ukraine-says-plane-shot-down-by-rocket-from-russia-1.2706039

Rebels have a history of shooting down planes, Rebels have a lot of anti-air, Rebels claim to have shot down the plane, but no, it was Russia who did it. We have proof! (Like we claimed after every incident for the past four months) And we will show it very soon! (Never)

Trust us on this (Ignore a history of bullshitting our way out at every turn), Russia would totally risk everything to shoot down one potentially empty plane.

Ukraine is crying wolf here. If RF really did it, all western media outlets would each shit out ten articles on this topic daily. Funny thing, Ukraine is supposed to have proof of the missile launch exact location. They have a Duga radar system that can detect a launch 2500km away. Remember Brain Scorcher in Stalker? That's the part of it.

Fascist militias running around and abducting whoever they please.....still, Vice News and Ostrosky want to label it as "normal citizen business"....

Also, Kiev wants to blame pro-russians for an airstrike that resulted in 11 deaths in a rebel-controlled area. Do they even know what nonsense they are talking?

I'm not sure where you're getting that impression from. Obviously, Vice has been doing most of its coverage of the conflict from the side of the Ukrainian government troops but in this video Ostrovsky clearly says that what Lyashko is doing is completely illegal and terrifies him, also stating how anything like that happening in the US would in his opinion be insane. Ostrovsky clearly tries to be fairly neutral (at least in this dispatch).

The way he said "insane" i understood to be "Incredible for the corrupted politicians of the West".

Also, he does try to covet it up with some kind of morals saying that they had problems with the police siding with the rebels, and so on and so forth.

That's not how I interpreted it, though the way he says it isn't very clear so you may be right.

You think so? I mean, he does says that the new government had problems with the police but that is fact. Many of the police officers in Eastern Ukraine simply let the separatists get on with it or even supported them. Although I don't ally myself with either side in this conflict, I understand why the officers chose to do so if they supported the cause (especially if they speak Russian better than Ukrainian, then they have plenty of reasons to be worried about the situation in Kiev and side with the faction that seems to represent their needs better). That said, from the point of view of the government and the law enforcement it is definitely a problem of direct insubordination.

Also, probably one of the most tragic things that have happened since the start of the unrest in Ukraine was what happened today: Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (or rather its crash over Eastern Ukraine, not far from the border with Russia). Many people have been killed since Maidan up until today and of course it is horrible that almost 300 people have died in a crash, but what could make this worse than everything that came before during the recent events in Ukraine is the aftermath. The flight was from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur and the people on it were not from Ukraine... if the Ukrainian government targeted the plane by accident, it is pretty much like police firing at tourists. If the separatists targeted the plane by accident, this might give NATO forces (or someone else) an excuse for armed intervention in Ukraine. :( Either way, this can't result in anything good.

  15. I'd take it with a grain of salt before some definitive info from the flight recorders is available, but that seems like an attempt to frame RF and DPR.

On one hand we have the rebel leader talking about a downed AN-26 plane in a post that was deleted recently as well as DPR boasting about captured AA launchers and a recording of "terrorists talking over radio about the incident" posted by UA SBU.

On another: The plane is supposed to receive info from Kyiv dispatchers while passing over the territory of Ukraine. The course of the plane was changed in comparison to previous days despite a no-flight order for civilian planes issued by UA on the 8th of July. It was taken down next to the Russian border. With AA systems that are in service in Ukraine army. That were moved next to Donetsk not so long ago. The same systems that the rebels captured recently. With UA reporting that the plane crashed way too quickly after the fact. A Spanish dispatcher says the plane was followed by UA jets before disappearing.

And then there is UA media reporting that Ukrainian army took down a terrorist plane with 280 separatists coming from Russia.

    EDIT: A good summary.

Those are some fair points (though I can't confirm the validity of that profile and I'd prefer a direct link instead of a screenshot). However, since it is a warzone I'd think it's quite obvious that they will follow any planes to fly over there regardless of what happens. Also, apparently Ukraine is calling for an international investigation, whilst the separatists are trying to seal off the area and want Russia to carry out the investigation. Obviously, I'm not saying they did it for sure and I'm not ruling out any other possibilities, but it seems most likely that the separatists targeted that plane by mistake and realized that it wasn't Ukrainian aircraft too late.

In other news: Israel invaded Palestine (there's clearly no reason why they did it today *hint, hint*).

EDIT: Sorry, when I wrote "I'd prefer a direct link instead of a screenshot" to the profile, I meant this.

I think people in Gaza have much more to worry about at the moment, but Hamas have been hitting Israel as well, so stay safe man.
