What's the first thing you do when you start a new map?

    I gather resources such as food, wood, leather, and then I start a basic mine to give me basic materials. If the map terrain isn't quality enough for me, I may just start a new account until the terrain is acceptable. When starting a new map, I also take for account how close certain terrains are and how many animals inhabit it.

    Gotta punch down those trees. Make your shack for when nighttime comes. Get your basic stone tools, try to get some food too.

    Grab them trees, make the most basic little ramshackle hut I can and then try and find a little bit of food or make a crafting table before night comes. Then next morning, look for supplies, make some food and try and start a mining area.

    Though if I am just surrounded by trees, I do try to find the edge to get into more open field so I can see what's around me at least.

    The first thing do is find the nearest cave. I build my basic tools and constantly move my furnace and crafting table. I like to build up a mass of resources before I settle down so that I don't have to waste time finding more resources when I build my base. I will usually spend a couple hours just searching for minerals and I usually stop when I get about 5 diamonds because by that time I have massive amounts of other resources that I don't have to mine for a long time.

    If I am playing in survival I will usually dig out a house or build it with dirt. Then I go about collecting resources and get my basic tools. If I am playing with someone, one of us will focus on building tools for both of us and the other will build a shelter.

    The first thing I usually do is find a nice planes area. Then, I start to gather wood! At least a stack. I make a basic house then start mining. That is my tradition new world strategy.
