Where do you like to build your shelter?

I usually like building my shelter in a flat land where minerals and trees are nearby. That way, I can get any resources I need while being close to my house. Pretty convenient, eh ?

I try to build my shelter into a side of an extreme hills biome mountain and slowly develop it until it becomes a fortress. I usually like to place large farms at ground level as well.

LOL! I recognize this too. When I was a minecraft n00b (no offence), I just did this because it was very easy and there were trees nearly everywhere. Now I just make temporary "Cube" shelters with a few basic structures in it. The shelter is usually made out of wood.

I like to build my first shelter in the cave of the highest mountain that I can find, mainly because it allows me to find coal more easily if I build my first shelter in a cave and it has a nice view from there. After building my shelter I make a path with stairs to the ground because it would be annoying to jump all those blocks to get to my shelter every time. :p

For the first few virtual days in minecraft I build an underground base as they are the quickest and most efficient to construct, while situating you near minerals and ores underground awaiting your pickaxe. This shall be my temporary home, until I find at least half a stack of diamonds and two stacks of iron, of which then I will embark on a long journey towards a well shaped terrain that suits my tastes.
I tend to be biased towards the extreme hills biome, as it has me thinking of various ways to shape my structure to integrate seamlessly into the undulating terrain, building bridges, cathedrals, and overhanging islands to create an empire high up among the air, and this often creates a pleasing end result. Once I have created this, it shall be my permanent shelter where I which I will continue expanding.

I like to build my homes on the snowy mountain biomes. They're generally pretty annoying to get around (especially if you need certain resources) but I really like the view that you get from the top! It's too bad that I've nearly killed myself trying to get down multiple times already or else all of my shelters would be on a snow mountain.

Honestly for my first night in a new game, just dig six blocks into dirt, and wall off the entrance.

I almost never stay in that first shelter, so it's really just to keep me alive until dawn, after that you keep hunting for a good starting place (near a cave, trees, etc.) then you build there. Heck even if I'm established in a world and I'm just exploring, i'll dig a dirt hole to hide in for the night (Though if I'm established I'll carry some glass so I can see out). Worst case scenario is that you get a creeper stuck outside, in which case you dig the other direction until you're back outside.

That's really cool, I'm gonna try that next time.

As for me, I like the jungle biome as it always has plenty of wood for building awesome treehouses.

I normally start building underground, or on which ever of my favorite biomes.

I usually build it in a forrest so that I have plenty of food, trees, and food. I've also built them underground before which is nice because there are a lot of resources and there are a lot less mobs once you've lit up the area.

I usually build a little base inside a mountain, and then I will expand it until I have a whole building.

I have a pretty bad habit of building underground. But it can be beneficial when it comes to PVP servers, so I guess it's not really a bad habit. I typically go deep into the caves to build my homes. Sometimes, I go to the bedrock level and set my home there. It's much safer underground because then people won't be able to find you easily, unless they have x-ray or something.

I like to build my shelters in the side of a mountain, that way the majority of my base is already built for me. :p I have also experimented with digging a hole under water and making an under water base. Those are really fun to create.

I like building my house on a mushroom island if I can. If there isn't one, I find a mushroom and plant it then build at the top of the mushroom.

Are we talking literally the very first shelter? Then I usually make a very crude version in the first mountain that I come across. It's nothing more than a hole in the mountain, with the covered up apart from one block.

I like to build my first house near a river and somewhere beside a mountain. My favorite thing to do is start mining and fishing so this location is perfect every time I start a new survival game.

I usually build inside of mountains, I enjoy living in caves and such. Not only do I find a large amount of minerals while I'm shaping the inside of the mountain, but I also get quite a bit of cobblestone. But, there's also that thing where you potentially build right above a cave, and you hear the monsters every night. That's just terrifying.

I almost always build my shelter on high ground. You can always see the sun when it comes up so you know when it's day. Also, you have a lot more digging potential because you start off in high ground. It's really easy to make tall contraptions from there too, because you can just jump down to the bottom and build up. Sometimes I find climbing down the high ground a bit of a chore, though.

Ohh nice actually. You should try and build trees around the thing, so it looks more Christmassy!
