Where do you like to build your shelter?

Yeah, that's kinda what I usually do. I like to have a nice cozy house usually one story with a basement. In that way I'm a bit boring

 

In a flat area next to the sea. Who doesnt like living next to the sea? I also make sure that there are enough trees around. And maybe a few caves aswell.

 

I actually think that building underground is really ugly. There is nothing but gray stone and it just looks really bad! How can you survive there? I would have nightmares if I way ever stuck underground -_-

 

Honestly for my first night in a new game, just dig six blocks into dirt, and wall off the entrance.

I almost never stay in that first shelter, so it's really just to keep me alive until dawn, after that you keep hunting for a good starting place (near a cave, trees, etc.) then you build there. Heck even if I'm established in a world and I'm just exploring, i'll dig a dirt hole to hide in for the night (Though if I'm established I'll carry some glass so I can see out). Worst case scenario is that you get a creeper stuck outside, in which case you dig the other direction until you're back outside.​

 

Usually I will build my shelter right by a riverside. I always tell myself that "someday, I'll build a pirate ship and sail away!" Sometimes I'll take a regular boat out, but the pirate ship building part is way beyond me.

 

Same here! It makes things a lot easier.

I also like underground shelters...they make me feel safe
I do like OP's suggestion of making them on top of tall trees. I will have to try that!

 

Mine is almost always underground. If I'm playing single-player, after a while I may build a house above-ground, but I rarely play single-player anyways.

 

I either build my shelter in the green plains, or underground. I prefer the plains because it is mostly flat so I have plenty of room to expand and put all my stuff, but my first shelter is usually underground because that is quick and easy to build, and gives you the basic needs of a shelter but doesn't look very good.

 

On a mountain side, overlooking the beautiful scenery I like to find!

 

I like to build it on a flatland so I can see what's coming. Sometimes on an overhang so I can look at the sun set or see the view with shaders on. For protection, usually a tree so nothing can get up and bother my stuff.

 

Maybe it's because I'm new, but I usually just build where I feel like at the time. Are there any areas that are advantageous to my survival? I would love some tips, especially for survival mode.

 

I prefer to build either next to an ocean or on in forests, hopefully some place secluded. I also tend to choose parts that are strategic for defense. Building near these places can provide me with materials easily.

 

Usually I find a mountain and just start hollowing it out then I build my shelter in there.. Especially when I'm just starting off.. Otherwise I make a treehouse in the jungle, that's always fun.

 

Sometimes I like to build a huge solid barrier around a little fort house to save me some supplies, especially when I have not collected enough items for the night, I just go build a barrier around the fort to keep me a little more safe.

 

I build on the tallest tree like a tall building because of the mods I installed. It's much safer on the tree since no mobs can climb a ladder. I also build on top of the mountains but if that's only I can't find a tree.

 

I get the basics when I start in a new world and then I head underground. Doing so ensures that I'll be able to get resources and drops from mobs, while being well-defended against other players. Most people hesitate to go hunting after someone who starts underground right away.

 

I also like to build my house in tall trees sometimes, its something that I always wanted to do, also I like to build my shelter on top of high mountains sometimes so I can see al the enemies below and have a good high ground that I can defend myself from, even better have a tall tree on top of a house on the mountain, with stairs leading to the top of the tree, because thats what I used to have

 

I go for the side of a mountain and build into it. I'm not a good builder and this way I don't have to worry about the outside of the house looking bad.

 

We always try to build near some kind of mountain. I like building on top of mountains because that allows for building secret passages into and around the mountain itself. But I also enjoy building inside of valleys or in the forest. Usually depends on the mood.

 

I usually just build it into the side of a mountain.
