Fair enough, to each their own. :) I'm really excited for the game because I loved the first two and this one basically looks like it will have the same atmosphere, a similar yet more dynamic combat system (but without the silly rolling), more varied gameplay, larger world and even better graphics. Looking at this recent in-game footage, I'm no longer worried about any rumoured downgrade since it still looks brilliant and this time it was a hands-on demo. Anyway, the full official video that combines the three clips I posted earlier has now been released, featured below.

I gotta say I really love how much effort was put into making characters' faces so detailed. The animations aren't that realistic, but they're significantly better than what we've seen in the previous games and give off emotions more adequately... however the faces themselves are just amazing. I downloaded the HD version of that video, which can be found here, and took some screenshots. Posted them in spoiler tags below.

  2. My only gripe is that plate armor doesn't look solid and bends when characters move.

Just wanted to add that there were only two main problems I had with the published footage. Firstly, the sound of Geralt's footsteps as well as Płotka's gallop did not seem to change at all regardless of the surface. This was most noticeable in snowy terrain, which is a sucker since I absolutely love the sound of a boot sinking into snow (reminds me of home during winter) and I love when games pull that off well. The second issue that bothered me was the HUD, which wasn't full-on ugly but it didn't look very good and it was way too large. I guess both of these things are fairly easy to fix until release. I can't assess how the Polish voice acting is in the most recent footage, as that version has not been published yet - though Polish journalists who did get to play it seem impressed with it thus far.

Also, I have some news regarding the high system requirements and differences between the PC and console versions. When reading a Polish interview with Adam Badowski, I learned that the programmers at CD Projekt RED urged the rest to not sugarcoat the current state of affairs and release the specs as they were at that moment in time - and they were based on a still unoptimised product. The devs are working on optimising the game for release, so although the system specs might seem overblown now, they can only get better with time and will definitely not be higher than what was listed. The recommended requirements that they gave us should allow you to play the game with 30 FPS (presumably on ultra), though this may get even better in time for release.

Moreover, the game was built from the ground up as a multiplatform title so there will not be huge divergences between the PC and console versions. Badwoski admits that it could have been more beautiful had they made it a PC exclusive, but he also states that they did not have time as this would have required more work to figure out how to get past the problem of the game eating up memory. Therefore, key visual aspects like texture size and how much grass the player can see at any given time will be identical across all three platforms. However, there will be differences in how each GPU handles the game and so things will take longer to load fully on consoles than powerful computers. Furthermore, one of the PC version's aces will be Nvidia's hair physics, which will eat up plenty of resources and will not feature in either of the console versions. Obviously, the PC version can also be run at higher resolutions; the PS4 version will run at native 1080p, whilst the Xbox One will get a 900p variant upscaled to 1080p (though the Reds are also working on achieving full 1080p for the Xbone, they are making no promises on that front).

Thanks for the heads up. And I hope the hair PhysX is better implemented than the TressFX in Tomb Raider, I had to turn it off because it looked so ugly.

If the video below is anything to go by, then I think it will be great.

Although it is possible to use versions of this tech in-game now, this could just be marketing bullshit and perhaps the release version of W3 will use far less strands of hair per each object in engine. Then again, according to that interview I posted earlier, Badowski did say that this will have a huge effect on performance and it seems as though they are using this as their key visual feature for the PC version. We'll just have to wait and see.

This is how they used this hairworks stuff in CoD Ghosts:

And here's what the tech looks like in Far Cry 4:

I remember playing with the hair feature on in FC4, and it didn't have that big performance hit on account of it really just extending these hair particles outwards and giving them this weird fuzzy effect instead of any kind of physics simulation. I wonder if they'll allow us to enable the fur particles without the physics aspect, since I'd much rather dump a few frames for that kind of thing than cut my framerate in half.

I am really impressed with this new footage as a whole. There are few issuses which are easily fixed before release. The won't be this big I am sure of this.
I do love the sword fighting animations. The actor with them sinc the first game, but now they have the thegnology to fully use his skills. Every cut is fast, deadly and elegant, this is how I imagined Geralt, when I read the books.
I want to note, that I was allways said on the official forums that the first game's soundtrack is superior, almost holy to me. Right now, what I have heard from the Wild Hunt's soundtrack, I am really impressed how they changed the direction since the Assassins of Kings. I do love the pure folk song in battle, they are soo much powerfull than a generic fantasy epic music.

Yes, the soundtrack is shaping up to be extremely immersive - I really like Percival's mixture of traditional Slavic vocals and some more oriental tunes in their music.

New gameplay video, almost 8 minutes long (I'm assuming Polish, Russian and possibly other language versions of the footage will soon follow).

Funnily enough, whoever is playing applies an oil to the steel sword before fighting a monster. He uses the silver sword on the beast just as he/she should, but it's still a silly little mistake that renders the example of applying oils kinda useless.

No no no no!!! Those aren't screenshots! Those are real photos of actors, that they paid, to dress up in Witcher costumes.

If you didn't catch my sarcasm, then, what I meant was: Those graphics are looking really good.

I too really love how much detail was put into characters' faces - the only thing that bothers me is that there seems to be a noticeable difference in quality between major characters and the "common folk". At least that's how it looked in that video and screenshots. I wasn't under that impression when looking at footage released earlier, so perhaps it's just a coincidence and doesn't reflect how things look overall.

For me, I'm only able to notice the difference, between Geralt and the villagers, in the video. In the screenshots though -the ones you last posted and those prior to it- the NPC models look well textured. I'm more willing to trust the caliber of screenshots over videos because, most videos, usually tend to be of a lower quality than what the actual game, of which the video is representing, displays.

Buddy of mine is building his own rig, and got a free code for Witcher III. Since he wasn't interested in the game and since it was a non-steam code, I now have a DRM free copy of Witcher III for when it releases.

"There will be a handful of beard hair lengths that his facial hair can grow to. The longest is apparently very long but we are informed that it will not reach Gandalf length. These beard lengths will appear as Geralt moves from location to location, to help represent a passing of time."

"...there will be a free Beard and Hairstyle DLC, that allows the player to apply a set look for Geralt."

"Upon completion of a monster hunt contract you have a chance at negotiating for some extra pay."

"The map is said to contain a large terrain and a number of settlements of similar size and detail to the town of Flotsam, the main town we saw in the Witcher 2. There will also be a couple of very large cities called Novigrad and Oxenfurt that the player can explore."

"For reference, this single map is reportedly larger than the Skyrim map. There will be about 6 other significant areas that will feature in the Witcher 3, including Kaer Morhen and The isles of Skellige, which form a large part of the story locations."

"An example of the practicallity behind crafting, with the right materials and skill you can craft saddle bags for your horse which in turn provides you with additional storage. All the equipment Geralt has on his person will be visible on the players character model, for the added touch of immersion."

"...the playable Ciri's part of the game will be between five and ten hours, and deliver the experience of an action-adventure game, rather than roleplaying game, like the rest of The Witcher 3."

Just a few highlights from the article, the rest isn't really news, but if you haven't been following the game very closely then it's worth reading the whole thing: http://www.game-debate.com/news/?ne... Length and Monster Hunt Contract Negotiation

  19. Okay, I'll repeat myself again, this is what Skyrim failed to be.

    If it works anyway.
