    Artyom was a silent, Gordon Freeman like character. A man of few words but many actions.

    The story is told through the eyes of both an old man named Homer (not from the simpsons but the philosopher from ancient greek.) and a girl named Sasha, though the book sometimes cut to Artyom.
    Also a certain person from Metro 2033 is pressent but I don't want to spoil that for you ;)

    In the book it was cool how he was silent, but it wasn't an unnatural silence, he just watched, and thought about things. Sometimes silent characters seem a little weird, but Artyom was good.

    Artyom, had a big beard in the book LOL but is was cool how artyom wasnt afraid to stick a gun into someones face if any vocies got raised... at least until khan ordered him down.

    Yeah, there's no doubt as to if he will be in there. It says that Artyom is the one rescuing the prisoner in Text during the 12 minute gameplay video and is said by Khan in the same video.
