No, I don't think so. Minecraft was created at a time where much better graphics were available. It wasn't a technical barrier, it was an artistic choice. The entire art style of Minecraft, the blocks and all, is what defines Minecraft.

But it's good that we have a lot of options, we can download texture packs and mods to completely change how the game looks.

Never! Minecraft wasn't made for good graphics or the best sounds or stuff. Minecraft was made for the creativity of the users. I personally don't need any good graphics, the 16x16 textures are perfect to let my creativity out.

The graphics ARE Minecraft. It's what defines the game and makes it stand out from every other sandbox and has inspired dozens of other clones. It created a genre and its graphical style is a big deal.

Haha Imagine minecraft with actual NICE graphics. It would be absolutly horribe! the whole point of minecraft IS the pixel style graphics and I don't think it would be appealing if it looked a bit like this [IMG]

No, I don't think Minecraft would benefit at all from better graphics. I think that the graphics are fine just the way they are. What makes Minecraft actually Minecraft is the pixel type art.

The only graphics one can really change without changing the whole game are the textures. You can already get texture packs if you want them that in some ways enhance or change up the game. I don't think Minecraft needs anything changed graphically since people who do want it changed are able to. Most people find the graphics of Minecraft iconic and have never even tried a texture pack, like my self. Also, it is important for many who do not own higher-end computers to be able to play the game smoothly.

Better graphics are always a nice touch, but Minecraft doesn't need it and some may even say it would make it lose its charm. Also, even if a game has bad graphics it would not stop me from playing it.

I don't think it will benefit from better graphics. I think the low res graphics are part of the charms of the game. Updating the graphics and making them slick will only take away from it.

LOL oh my god that looks terrible. I agree, Minecraft is Minecraft. If you don't like it you can use textures. But making it look too realistic is just bizarre

If you want better graphics, then that's what the texture packs are for. I also use tecture packs, but only for having a bit more detailed, more sharp (less pixelated, 32x32-size) Miencraft game to look at, without changing the general feel of the game.

I agree, the day Minecraft updates from its trademark blocky graphics, is the same day I will vow never to play again.

I'd love to see it get a better lighting engine and maybe some sharper default textures. People are modding these things in anyway so I don't see why it shouldn't be an option to toggle between a modern and a classic mode.

No! minecraft is one of those few games I can proudly say about that gameplay beats graphics. Graphics could have been nicer, but if implementing graphics would break the gameplay mechanics, then please no. Besides, we have a full arsenal of texture packs at our disposal.

I feel like Minecraft is made to have the old school looking graphics, I just can't imagine it looking any other way.

If people want better graphics, there's optifine and texture packs for that. Personally, I think it would be overdone if graphics were realistic. On the other hand, I've always wondered what Steve and the villagers would look like if they had actual faces...

I don't think Minecraft would benefit from better graphics. It's kind of well known as a pixel game. When the developer made the game, it was purposely made to be pixelated also. Although, I do believe this is one of the few games out there that is hindered by the bad graphics.

I really think that the graphics are perfect for what the game is. I like it because I can play it on my old computer without having to worry that it won't run right. This is because there are not a ton of things to load. If it had amazing graphics, I would not be able to do this.

I don't see it benefiting that much from updated graphics. The basis is so simple it really doesn't need it. The one way I could see it being useful would be with the Oculus Rift but that project was scrapped when they sold out.

That's kind of a weird thing though. Sometimes Minecraft will randomly start lagging to no end for me on my other laptop. It's also a very good laptop with plenty of ram and a good processor.

Then it's your graphics card. It could be quite old or it may not have enough video memory, you should consider upgrading if you can.
