Will Minecraft benefit from better graphics?

No I don't think it needs better graphics. What made it unique and set a standard for many indie games was it's art style and simple graphics. This is why it got so popular - it's simplicity attracted many people and that's why other indie games were also able to 'leech' off this popularity by trying to emulate similar graphics.

It most certainly doesn't need better graphics, the blocky graphics are definitely part of the appeal of Minecraft.

I think that the game play and dynamics of the game matter much more for a game like Minecraft. There are mods that increase the graphics a little bit but they slow down the speed of the game because there is so much to load.

I don't think mods improve the graphics quality, they just smoothen the textures and make them more high definition. The graphics will still be pixel style but they would look much nicer

I agree with many other people on this, the quality of vanilla Minecraft do give it its charm. The game started out with the intention of having such graphics, whether non fans like it or not. The game already has such a wide variety of fans, why change a main feature to please some people?
It seems as if people don't want it to change anyway. Changing the graphics for it will only make fans angry to see the game changed, just because developers want to see more sales.

I agree with everyone here. Part of the appeal with Minecraft for me is kind of the throwback graphics. If you updated the graphics, it sort of loses that unique quality that Minecraft brings in today's gaming world.

I think the best change they might consider is to just update the textures or offer a variety. I'd rather have it official than require a mod update. Detailed textures, good lighting, and possibly a higher polygon count on monsters and maybe more detailed weaponry, I think those would be good changes

I see the current simplicity of the graphics strongly appealing. I would think about the changes more depending on how you define better graphics. As it stands, minecraft is plenty good enough for me graphics-wise.

Yup this is what my point was too. The game isn't meant to be flashy, its meant to focus on the game mechanics!

As it stands texture packs can bring those better graphics to those looking for it, and those who don't want it can stick with vanilla.

Minecraft is an extremely popular game. Much of popularity was earned by what it was, and what it is now. I personally, honestly think that minecraft would not have been anywhere near as popular as it now is if it hadn't had it's blocky, 16-bit textures. You have texture packs anyway. I guess people who don't like the vanilla textures can use them, as they go up to 512x512

I am not sure if it will benefit from better graphics, but my laptop will most certainly start burning.

Better graphics wont impact much on general play of Minecraft as it is great already as it is. And it became famous for that 8-bit looking graphics.

I do think that Minecraft would benefit from improved graphics. While graphics don't make a game, I think that a lot of gamers are steered away from Minecraft due to it's blocky graphics.

Better graphics? Minecrafts' graphics are awesome. It has a certain appeal to it and besides it only goes to show that you can make a game with nothing but pixelated blocks on it and still be 100% more fun to play than Call of Duty.

I don't think a graphical update will add anything to the game. And besides, the pixelated graphics is what defines Minecraft really, it became the games icon and signature. I don't know about you but when I see a pixelated block of some sort I immediately think of Minecraft. And besides, the low quality graphics makes the game faster since there's not much work left for the computer other than generating the world.

I don't think better graphics will improve the game. Minecraft is known for its mediocre graphics. Of course you can install mods like Optifine and Sonic Ether Unbelievable Shaders, but I think that it kind of takes away the classic Minecraft feeling. It really just depends on the person.

I originally came into this thread thinking that perhaps Minecraft could use some better graphics, mostly because although nobody plays the game for its visuals, they can't hurt. But I agree with some of you in that the graphics give the game a certain feel, and that nobody really plays Minecraft for the amazing 1080p HD quality graphics it offers. The game's selling points are its extensive gameplay despite simplicity, so no, it won't really benefit.

As people have said you can already add graphic packs to the game, and I think it should remain that way. Minecraft is fine just the way it is, I don't think the creator should make it any different.

They are not really "graphics packs" they are resource packs that just change the textures. The graphics will still be pixel style but tehy will look different
