Graphics were never a huge emphasis in the Minecraft experience. Despite this, I love the shader packs. It makes the game look absolutely stunning and makes it feel like a whole new game. I do think that minecraft would benefit from new graphics, but many changes would have to be made, including the icon!

At first I wasn't a huge fan of the default textures but then they grew on me. I think Minecraft is beautiful and if you don't like it, you can mod it to use better textures and shaders. I think the simplicity looks clean and allows Minecraft to run quickly even on lower end computers. It would actually make less people play it if you had to have a better computer so I think it is in a good place graphically.

Nope. Minecraft was all about the basic looking, simple, gameplay. I think you shouldn't change the formula which made Minecraft successful. User created stuff is always a huge positive thing for games.

Yes and no. As others have stated, part of it's appeal is the "blockiness" (I just made up that awesome word). If you are unhappy with the look of vanilla, you can pretty easily install texture packs as well as other addons to enhance the look as you see fit.

I mean, you can't really take away the blocks. Not just because of the style but the way the whole game works is that you can build pretty much anything out of anything. Plus I don't think it would be able to render massive Minecraft worlds very well. I'm still kind of perplexed how it's possible for the worlds to be infinite and constantly loading new blocks and not take up all the space on your computer.

I don't know much about computers though, so this is kind of a thing of magic to me.

The extremely blocky and low-res look actually looks pretty nice. It's not just low-poly for the sake of being low-poly, it's low-poly with a style. Notch didn't HAVE to make the moon, sun, and clouds perfectly rectangular, but he did to give the game a more stylized aesthetic.

Besides, this is the epitome of the "gameplay is more important than graphics" concept. In fact, it's the ONLY game I've played in well over decade that actually lives up to the concept.

Meh, people who complain about Minecraft graphics annoy me. It's not like it's some FPS console game, it's a sandbox game. And there's thousands of texture packs you could get.

Minecraft has its own certain aesthetic and I wouldn't exactly call it "bad graphics". The pixel aesthetic won't appeal to everyone, but that's how the game was made and I don't think people care about visuals enough to not play the game because it doesn't look like Battlefield. The gameplay of minecraft would not fit the visuals of a game like Battlefieldm and minecraft's graphics fit the game just fine.

Personally I think the graphics make the game more interesting. The graphics kind of are part of the hype of the game for me. Sure they aren’t top of the line graphics but the graphics fit with the game perfectly.
I’m not sure they’d benefit at all from a graphic update.

I think the blockyness (is that a word?) is part of what makes minecraft what it is.

I wouldn't say the graphics are bad, as I think that was what they were going for. And as someone else above me stated, you do have the option of allowing texture packs anyways.

The artistic style of Minecraft is what makes it an unique game. If you don't like, there are plenty of texture mods to use.

Seems like almost everyone on this thread agrees that the graphics aren't bad and shouldn't be changed. IRL I've only heard people that never played Minecraft complain about not trying it out because of graphics

I don't think the graphics will change anything, or make it look better cause it looks fine to me. However could it possibly lighten up some people's eyes and bring in new players yes I think that would.

I think part of the aesthetic of Minecraft comes from it's pixelated graphics. If Mojang upgraded the graphics it just wouldn't be the same game. If you are interested in better graphics, then your best best would be a texture pack.

Not really. It kinda defines the game in a way. It wouldn't be minecraft without the pseudo 8-bit graphics.

I doubt Minecraft will get an updated graphics to allow it to run on a wider range of computers. Beside the issue of compatibility (old computers already have a hard time running Minecraft,) I think people do enjoy the aesthetics of the game -- even if objectively, they aren't the best looking. There's always user modifications that can improve the visuals of Minecraft and that's always a great option if one is looking for it.

Minecraft would not benefit from better graphics in my opinion. The current minecraft graphics of minecraft have character, and it is not intended to look realistic. Sure, a game such as Call of Duty should have great graphics visually, because this is what would ultimately improve the game. This is not the case in minecraft. Besides, there is a huge community of minecraft modders who already do a similar thing, so if you're interested, just download some of those!

I think minecraft's graphics should stay the way they are. Minecraft is a simple game and that is why it is so beautiful. The graphics are not even a factor that I think about while playing minecraft. If you want better graphics on minecraft there are plenty of texture/resource packs to improve the graphics.

I think that the graphics in Minecraft are what makes Minecraft the game that it is. It's suppose to be a pixel game with block-y textures. I think that changing the textures would change the game a lot... There's other Minecraft variants out there that have better graphics, so I guess you could go play that instead if you don't like the Minecraft graphics of the game itself.

I think that minor graphic enhancements would do the game well, but nothing major. One cool thing about Minecraft is that even though the graphics aren't that good, the gameplay is still fun and addicting.
