I don't think Minecraft would be any better with better graphics. If anything, it would be worse. It's one of those games where its better off and only good because of the pixel graphics.

It will never benifit from better graphics. If Mojang decided to add better graphics, I am sure there will be a massive uproar from the community.

I love the way the graphics look. I think that it sets Minecraft apart from other games, and that's good.

I think the devs wanted Minecraft blocks to roughly represent Legos and other building block toys, so the graphics were styled around that rough, jagged look. I doubt if anyone plays Minecraft expecting cutting edge graphics. Even with mods and HD texture packs the overall look is still blocky, which is now an iconic style associated with Minecraft. I personally hope they never change the graphics drastically, as I love the 3D pixelated look!

I really doubt people would like this game if it had stellar graphics. Part of the appeal of this game is the fact that it has an old school pixel look to it. If you took that away from it and try too hard with the graphics, it wouldn't work. Plus, if they got way better graphics into the game it would run much slower or have to be cut down in size as to what you can do and how big the worlds can be.

I don't think it really defines the game. It is what it is.

Eh, I don't think the appeal of minecraft is mainly through graphics. It's mostly the building element and the gameplay itself. When I first saw minecraft I was kind of put down by the graphics thinking 'what is this blocky crap', so it might have a discouraging element to potential players, but I doubt mojang cares that much if a small potential number of players don't ever try the game.

I really don't think the game need better graphics. There are mods like shaders if you really want something like that, but for the most part, the game became popular because of the gameplay, not because of the graphics.

As you can always add on new texture packs, I don't really think Minecraft would benefit from "better" graphics. The graphics in Minecraft are unique and really make the game different other creative building games.

The extremely blocky and low-res look actually looks pretty nice. It's not just low-poly for the sake of being low-poly, it's low-poly with a style. Notch didn't HAVE to make the moon, sun, and clouds perfectly rectangular, but he did to give the game a more stylized aesthetic.

Besides, this is the epitome of the "gameplay is more important than graphics" concept. In fact, it's the ONLY game I've played in well over decade that actually lives up to the concept.

When Minecraft was in beta -- wasn't it originally intended to get a facelift on graphics? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that's what I read at one time.

Either way, I wouldn't want an overhaul on graphics. The blocky graphics has a certain charm to it, which if it got taken away, the game wouldn't feel the same to me. I don't think the graphics will ever change at this point; especially with all the Minecraft merchandise that has been made. It's how people recognize the game.

What do you mean, "better graphics"? Just because the game looks pixelated does not actually mean that the graphical quality is low. Just without getting modifications to your game you can make minecraft look pretty good- with modifications you can make it look amazing. Look up some videos about it, some people have really souped up Minecraft to make it very HD.

I don't think it'd make much of a difference. There's plenty of mods/resource packs that can make it more graphically intensive (or less) if you want.

Better graphics would be much better for Minecraft, it would probably entail moving to a different engine/programming language, and the performance issues Minecraft has could be fixed in the process, Minecraft runs horribly on pretty much any computer. I can run games like BF3 maxed out at 50 fps yet I can't run Minecraft with shaders are 60 fps.

I think they should, or at least it will be a bonus for Minecraft, the concept itself is already great with horrible 16-bit graphics so I can imagine how they will increase they're game if the graphics got better, so yes in a way , improving their graphics will have some beneficial results.

Minecraft's original graphics are more than fine for most players. The game is designed to look relatively simplistic because then you can build something and make it look incredible nonetheless. Without a doubt, Minecraft wouldn't benefit from better graphics because it would change the basic point of the game. Start simple and build up to something greater. Updated graphics aren't needed.

Graphics is and never will be something that attracts audiences to Minecraft. Graphics are simply an awe inspiring moment that lasts for a short amount of time, and then the gameplay matters. Minecraft's goal was never to become the new Battlefield, it was to create a wonderful, retro quirky game. Could it benefit? Probably, I can't see why it would impact on negative grounds on Minecraft. There are Minecraft shaders that create these amazing scenery in Minecraft (check it out). Is it necessary should be the real question, because it is absolutely not needed for good graphics. Will it benefit? Probably.

I don't think it would benefit from better graphics. I think that it's graphics are apart of it's appeal and charm. The graphics make it look unique and make it stand-out apart from other games.

No i think graphics should definitely stay as they stands now. Graphics are major thing which define Minecraft game as something unique and changing graphics would probably cause in big drop in the number or players. So i am not really sure that Minecraft will benefit from changing them.

Notch originally had somebody who was designing an artstyle for Minecraft, then fired him for reasons I don't really know. Minecraft can and could have benefit from better graphics.
