Would you play a Call of Duty MMO?

That's true. If we're not considering a persistent world as a norm for MMOs, then each and every game with a multiplayer mode in it can be called a MMO.

That doesn't sound right now, does it?

Which category would you put games like BF 3 and COD series in? They are not SP games IMO.

They're just games, albeit with a multiplayer component.

I would just call them shooters which have multiplayer capabilities.

Yeah, I think you are right here. They cant be construed as MMOs unless they ditch the SP part altogether.

I would give it a shot but I don't think that many people could play on a level/map at the same time. So it wouldn't really be all that "massive" of an online game. The game has grown to be sort of stale recently so they should mix it up and add a MMORPG element to it. I think most of my friends who play the game would agree and they would give it a shot.

I don't think that ditching the SP part would make them MMO's.
To be an MMO it would have to have a persistent world, and as it stands that doesn't happen in those games.
That's where the Massively part of MMO comes in, it's massive as in thousands of players playing simultaneously and in the same world around the clock.

This is something I've always thought about. Most people who really play video games and aren't just Call Of Duty fanboys know the game gets pretty boring after only a couple of hours.. I think the game is eventually going to flop when they realize they keep paying for the same game only with some extra added stuff here and there, new maps, etc. Same crap, different game. This could be the thing that actually made the game interesting to play. I have no idea how they would do it though. I doubt IW will ever step outside of their comfort zone. They're not known for being very innovative to me.

I would not play a Call of Duty MMO, and I don't really see a way that it would be viable unless they made some MAJOR overhauls to the game formula. If we look at games like Planetside 2, you need things like vehicles, diversity, a good respawn system, and good teamwork mechanics to really work. None of which Call of Duty really has.

Maybe. I like Call of Duty and I like MMO's too, but I guess it would be a strange combination.
For a game like this to "work out" it should be quite original and refreshing.

I think this could be interesting. I don't know how they'd get the military aspect of it to work in an MMO, though. Actually, what would work better is to make it a take off of their Extinction or Zombies modes and that would totally work as a COD MMO. Or make it similar to Borderlands where you can travel anywhere and team up with other players to take down political targets or enemy compounds.

I wouldn't to me CoD as a MMO sounds like a fail to me I personally think it is fine like it even though I know many people will beg to differ.

I'd give it a shot. Wouldn't be too bad considering that Planetside 2 is pretty awesome. Bringing the CoD mechanics into a MMO setting would actually be rather interesting.

Well, if crappy MMOFPS games like Sudden Attack and Special Force were able to gain support from FPS enthusiasts, then I don't see why CoD wouldn't get the seal of approval from FPS gamers. Combat Arms is probably the MMOFPS game that was able to gain popularity and support from FPS gamers until it became infested with hackers.

Call of Duty is way to shallow of a game to build an MMO around. Not only that, I couldn't even imagine how awful the community would be with thousands of 12 year old kids running around in the same world.

A CoD MMO would be fucking epic. Seriously, I'd probably be more addicted to that than any other game ever. Period. Haha

I would play it. The lag should be really minimal though. Would it be one big PvP arena or how would it work?

I heard that MMOFPS games do experience lags due to server congestion. Given that FPS games are very fast-paced, servers might not be able to keep up with the amount of data being transmitted, which is why some people do not agree with a CoD MMO as player-hosting is better especially if the host has a very fast internet connection rather than server-hosting where you rely on the capacity of the server.

How do you imagine a CoD MMO playing?
Or are you saying you would be hooked just because it has a CoD tag?

I really don't think that Call of Duty would go this route. If they did I would pay more attention. I'm not exactly sure how they would pull it off. There is a surge of new FPS MMOs, but the really big ones like Destiny haven't come out yet. I'd like to see how that does before I really decide.
